Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme & S Clip?
I was hoping to mount the above two on an AM2/AM2+ Socket, rotating a quarter turn for improved airflow (Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H Mobo). The S Clip seems to fit the Gigabyte retention mechanism Ok, but fouls the lower heatpipes. Has anyone managed to achieve this with or without some serious bodging? ...

Hi evvk & Happy New Year! You don't mention which Asus mobo you've got but you've got nothing to loose by trying 8rdavcore , details of which you'll find here: http://www.silentpcreview.com/Web_Links+index-req-viewlink-cid-19.html I can get the vcore on my A7N8X down from a default 1.65/1.70v to a u...

Going back & forth like cotdt mentioned IMHO could produce a bit of uneveness @ the edges, owing to the initial drag @ the beginning of the stoke? It would be preferable to use a circular motion. Also the glass is not a block but a sheet, approx 12" square, that I used to use for printing photograph...

Like josephclemente I gained about 5c & for the nominal time it took, it was well worthwhile, but I had a TT Volcano heatsink, which was an initial disappointment. On a sheet of 1/4" glass it quickly went down to 1200 grade wet & dry, although I didn't bother with any water till the finest grade. As...

Try 4 rubber bands looped through the fans corner screw holes. I have an 80mm blowing on some suspended hdisks like this & zero vibrations are transmitted. The ends of the bands are poked through the side screw holes in the 5 1/4 '' bays & secured with half a matchstick each! It's about as low tech ...

@70C+ you're running close to a crash & loosing your top score! :( My XP2200 cops out @88C on the nose. Presumably you done all the obvious stuff like cablegami & opening up fangrills etc? Hi williemues , there is also "Y" adapter available with the yellow wire only fitted on one side, although cutting, as mentioned above, will work just as well. As both your identical fans will get the same power, both Rpms will be pretty much the same anyway, so only one signal wire is needed. You a...

The review states: The cabling on this Seasonic is twisted, like one or two other PSUs we've reviewed recently. It's said to improve EMI performance I'm familiar with audio/data cable being twisted as it's carrying a signal. I have a friend who spends a small fortune on all his hifi cabling includin...

You're dead right, as far as this board goes you're stuck @ a 1.65v min for VCore. I used to be really p***ed of about this, as I expect you are too! :( I did'nt really fancy a pin mod which seemed the only solution. I first tried 8rdavcore about a year ago & the VCore reduction part was inoperative...

m0002a in reality you are probably quite right about this thin open cell foam. In theory an optomist would hope it might have some microscopic effect. The reason I fitted it was because it was plastic foil backed & I have a bit of a dust problem. The dust was starting to stick to the black Paxmate....

I used to have a pair of 7500RPM WD's in caddies which always ran cool owing to their dreaded & noisy built in 40mm fans. Seems like SPCR now has it's own "in house" answer to that perennial question of calculating multiple fan noise. DBAdder by Kostik (beta), is a handy little freeware utility that seems to have just arrived on the dowload pages without fanfare (low dBA). It seems to work very well & will undoubtedly ...

I don't see why the individual resisistors shouldn't work, although you run the risk of reducing the voltage to such an extent that the fan/s won't start. Maybe you should experiment with a variety of resistance values on one fan only. The excellent "Fan Voltage Resistor Calculator by Kostik (V0.4)"...

You don't say which mobo your friend has, but you could try taking a look at 8rdavcore. Provided it is supported, this will enable you to see VDimm & also adjust it up & down whilst in Windows. http://www.hasw.net/8rdavcore/ I have found it's readings a few tenths out when compared to MBM5 & Speedfa...

I did a fan mod on a newish cheapo generic psu. A few weeks later it just died. The effect on the PC was the same as if someone had turned off the mains switch. This firm seems to make it's own cabin/pollen air filters for most cars availble to the European market. http://www.puravent.co.uk/filters/display_static_page.pl?static=products.htm Whilst it seems that most/all? of their filters seem to be upgrades (carbon impregnated & of no added value to us), if...
