Sorry about that, didn't realise you had a 7000 series cooler. I've got a VF700 and I'd love a 'reverse' fan for it.

My 6800 stays at 46 degrees idle and maxes to 48 at full load. I'm using a nexus fan on top of the VF700-Cu between 850 and 1400 RPM so it's silent all the time :)

The fans on the Vantec Aeroflow are YSTech TMD I fans. Unless the TMD II's are much improved over the type I's I would steer clear of them. It's an interesting fan, and it blows a lot of air anf undervolts well, but it's acoustic signature is just awful. Lots of pure high tones. It sounds like a ti...

^^ agreed. I've done this on mine (with a modded nexus fan instead of the slim zalman) and it runs at 1% idle with an underclocked 2D mode and 4% at full load. Temps never exceed 55 degrees load and 45 degrees idle.

Chances are it's the graphics card cooler as if it's standard it'll be loud. My advice is to grab an arctic cooler or zalman VF700 and connect the fan directly to the motherboard then use spmething like speedfan to closely regulate fan speeds.

It looks cool and those fins are loooong and plentiful so I wouldn't be suprised if it actually outperformd it. Those panels will most likely have a negative effect on temperatures but they're probably removable.

Distilled water and zerex. Anti-freeze is only any use if you're dealing with sub-zero temperatures. The glycol breaks down within a couple of months and can corrode types of plastics. It offers no advantage for temps, in fact it is actually worse compared to pure water. Zerex, waterwetter or an equ...

Set the fan to operate between say 2% and 7% and fiddle and change with the temperature range for these speeds until you find a good mix between idle temps and noise and keeping temps down when the CPU is under stress.

It's hard to tell from small net pics but if you have the room internall you can probably fit an 80mm fan with a slim adaptor or custom mount. This would make it SIGNIFICANTLY quieter as you could undervolt to like 7V.

arctic coolers have a massive effect in SFF cases, this is reduced in full sized cases but still makes a difference. The increased exhaust draws even more air through the case, cooling components more and because the hot air isn't recirculated case temps drop further. This is a very good thing howev...

You don't get any more CFM by having one intake fan and one exhaust fan other than the fact that the fan doesn't have to work against pressure, and that increase is minimal most of the time. Indeed, that's AAM and can be set by most HDD utility programs (hitachi is my fav) however that only reduced seek noise. The whine from this drive is spin-based so it won't really help I'm afraid :( The only thing really is to either replace it (not really an option) or silence with material.
