Hi jozi, I have a few questions slightly o/t: the A7N8... neither allows changing the multiplier on the fly, nor it allows undervolting. What it the voltage you get with a mobile XP2500 ? The one of a desktop XP2500 or a lower one ? Is your CPU correctly recognized by the mobo ? I don't doubt it is ...

Look at the model number. If it ends in a 'C' then it's a JVC one, if it ends in a 'N', its a Nidec one. You're kidding for sure... It would be too easy if all sata drives were jvc while pata were nidec. Even Gerbil, a few posts above said he had two sp1213c, one nidec and one jvc. Sorry if i'm mis...

Help me pinpoint instability
My system had been running without a glitch for months with no major upgrade. Air path has not been changed recently neither. Last week i began dampening my case with gedicoustic (mutemat ?) : Sides, top panel, and bottom : there is a slight overlap with the edge of the motherboard. So far, it ran s...

Thanks for the figures, i was about to run into the same experimentations. I measure everything these days with my power meter. In fact, I'm rather disappointed because of my UPS and my modem router. While it's understandable the UPS is constantly loading, (i'll give my figures if interested) the mo...

Since when do brick powersources whine ? The brick of my gsm does whine or buzzes, and so does the one of my yamaha keyboard. Coils do whine, even if passive. I confess i changed from my old liyama vision pro master 410 to the VP191b because i was tired of the buzz of the crt monitor. I was very wo...

Two days ago, I hardly burnt my A7N8X-X a silly way : Because of the coil whine you mentionned, i tried to wrap the coils with my hot glue gun. Time to close and remount the PC, the glue was cold, so ok for the launch : I started the computer and waited for windows to boot as it's when the drivers t...

Maybe we could soluce the OP question even if it happened to be solved otherwise. What graphic card would be the best bang for the buck in 2D use only, like photo editing ? Matrox P650 is €150 worth and matrox (past) superiority seems to be based on its high quality of the analog output, ie : no lon...

I'm currently in the same situation as you David ; so I was wondering why not go for a Radeon 9250 (128bits version) 128MB as it is nonsense to have more memory ? Maybe it's the dual display that you need ? But I don't care providing that mine has a DVI output. Here 9250 seems to be half the price o...

I can't see closely enough on the pictures wether the HS is touching the alu sides or not. I tried at a moment to have a heatsink on my HD but the top of it does not dissipate enough heat to be effective. So I'll try to have a wrapping piece of alu and have the HS on it. Could you report temps befor...

So i've been through some experimentations : With a ghetto paper duct on the psu : the airflow is forced along the SI-97 and temps are now 40 on full (cpuburn) and as low as 29 when playing music. There is only the psu fan spinning but it stays at min speed, the psu doesn't get warm enough. When i h...

Actually, with my old HS, i had my fan spinning at only 50%, and running it at 100% would lower temps to 31. HS was an heavy all copper one with very fin blades oriented to high speed fan. I had differences in efficiency only when pushing my CPU. I guess that heatpipes and heat transfer hardly don't...

I've just installed my SI-97. The heatsink setup by itself was quite easy, but i had to cope with my case : i could not install the heatsink without removing the psu, but if i removed my psu and installed the heatsink, i would not be able to put the psu back ;o). I finally managed to have both by sl...

lowest fsb on a7n8x-x ?
Sorry if this post is not on the right place. I use speedfan to lower the fsb on my a7n8x-x from default 133-134 to 100MHz. It makes my xp2200+ slow down from 1800 to 1350Mhz My ram is DDR333 but i set it down to synchro though = > 2*133 If i try to reach fsb below, it reboots my pc. I wonder which ...

intake fan : which papst or how to get the best of it ?
I have a mid tower case I can mod at will. I recently tried a noiseblocker 80mm s2 but even on rubber mounts and at minimum speed, the noise is not bearable. I'd like to make another attempt and I seek for advices for the fan size and location. I am going to fold a sheet of aluminium as if to wrap a...

I chose to stay away from Asus mb's since they do not undervolt. Sure, I would also stay away from my mobo, but it happens to be the one I own. It is already a miracle I can install the SI-97 in the same case as the psu ;o) as the chipset is on the very edge on the mobo. Actually, I'm still not sur...

In fact, it is what I planned for my computer. I reckoned that a SI-97 under my PSU 120mm fan would leave a 10mm clearance. As I have a A7N8X, the socket orientation is ok. First i will try to run it "passively" (with no cpu fan) to see if the sucking of the psu fan just on the rad is sufficient. Ot...

HD 35 exhaust temp from the psu is 28 at the hotter spot at idle temps are not that low,...
