dhanson865, is that a vote for the VX over the HX generally, or for a smaller wattage regardless of series?

S1 Fan Mounting

Considering an HD48x0 (moving away from a GTX280 due to lack of aftermarket cooling) with an S1.

Has anyone tried a fan in front of the cooler - not necessarily at the front of the case - blowing lengthwise towards the rear of the case? Better wise than one on top of the cooler?

Thank you.

GTX280/S1

Is AC not listing the S1 as compatible with the GTX280 because it simply will not fit or because they feel it can't handle the heat?

Thank you.

Modu82 or Corsair HX?

HX was number one candidate for when I needed to replace this Seasonic. But now the time has come, I see the Enermax is SPCR number one pick.

I also see complaints about noise/quality with the Modu82.

So which one?

Thank you.

Going to wait for 55nm, but I'm also looking again at the Radeon 4870 as it's already got options for aftermarket cooling.

FartingBob, if you call a GTX280 'silly money' what do you could it when people buy two or three?

My X800 has lasted for four years. I think that's been pretty frugal.

Looking around the web, I see that some say the 55nm version will launch at an event on 25/7 of this month. I can wait for that.

Settled on the Mirage, assuming I can find one to buy.

Having to suspend the drives wouldn't put me off the Cosmos if it was otherwise right - have my drives suspended in this Antec.

I've got a Zalman VF700-Cu on my Radeon X800, so I don't think it's a stretch to think stock cooling isn't going to be acceptable.

Don't really want the PSU spinning too fast due to the power it has to deliver with a 280GTX in there throwing out heat.

Need a new PSU?

Just about to upgrade.

Will my Seasonic S12-430 be OK for:

Intel Q9550
8GB DDRII
GTX280
2xHD - 7200rpm
2XDVDRW
Sound Card.

I'm attracted to something with modular cables and built-in PCIE support, but that will be harder to justify if the Seasonic is good enough.

Thanks.

GTX280 Questions

Planning a GTX280 for the imminent upgrade for my quiet system.

Are any of them quieter than any other?

Any aftermarket coolers that are compatible?

Thank you.

Thanks. I hadn't looked at Akasa.

I prefer the Mirage to the Eclipse.

You say the Akasa can be modded more; does it need to be?

How is the noise in the aluminium Akasa compared to the steel Antec?

Ok, how about this question?

I'm looking at the Antec P182 or Coolermaster RC-1000 Cosmos. Any thoughts/alternatives?

Will the top exhaust be an issue when the case will be placed under a desk?

Thanks.

P182/RC-1000? [was: Big mother of a case?]

My SLK3700AMB is great - can sleep with my head a few inches from it on. However every time I have to work inside it, I wish it was bigger. No so bothered about width, but increased height and depth are important. Not interested in a window or other bling. Would really like a single 120mm rear fan a...

N7SC, my monitor weighs just under 20kg and I can't believe the rest of the stuff on my desk adds another 5. I'd hope it'd be OK with only half its max load.

N7SC, the Fredrik is height adjustable - something that attracted me to it. The only slight worry is the load limit of 50kg. Although my gear weighs much less than that even with this old CRT, I'm a little sceptical about a desk that can't take my own weight.

Inadequte power?

A couple of weeks ago I had what I though was video card trouble: had a lot of instability in Windows and eventually there was no picture. Replaced that X800 with a new X1950GT and all was fine. Until yesterday. When I turned on the machine the fans ran, but nothing else happened. Testing today, sho...

A Google search lead me to a namesake (see the derekva post in thisthread here), who's using a Ninja on a K8N-E, which looks similar.

[EDIT:] I've ordered one. If I can't make it fit, I'll keep it for my next CPU next year - assuming Intel haven't changed their socket by then.
