Anyways case wise I would try to go with the LC04 if you can, it's easier to get a quieter 80mm fan then a 60mm fan. Hard drive wise I would consider a Samsung Spinpoint 3.5mm hard drive putting one 200-300GB Spinpoint in with AAM enabled will likely be quieter then two 160GB 2.5mm hard drives, it w...

I've had good luck with 3ware raid cards, get a PCI-E based one like the 9590 or the 9650, both of those will likely set you back about $700. For hard drives I would go with 5 250GB drives, either Western Digital SE16 or a Seagate 7200.10. I would also go for a full Pentium and not a Celeron, and I ...

RAID Notes 1. GET A HARDWARE RAID CARD !!! (Performance is superior) 2. I probably am wrong here, but get Raid 5 if you have alot of reads . If you have alot of writes go for Raid 10. Hardware RAID is the way to go for any corporate IT servers. As far as what RAID to go for, I say RAID 5 for most e...

Hmm good review, though I got to say that the SI-128 is working well for me passively in my Antec Fusion. I am using the S-Flex 1200 RPM models and I think that I could easily go down to the 800 RPM models. Of course my processor is an older model, and Athlon 64 3700 s939. I will also mention that t...

The fans you selected are excellent, at 12v they will likely be inaudible in most rooms. And if you hook one up to the CPU fan headers at least one will be spinning slightly slower. Anyways changes I would make, get a passive graphics card, XFX makes a passive 7800 if you simply must have a high end...

Acoustipack wont raise case temps unless you block the wrong holes with it. It's a little harder, but you can install the acoustipack even after the system is in the case so you odn't ahve to get it right away. After finishing my Acoustipack installation on my system, I would first build the system...

AcoustiPack Application on a Fusion/NSK2400
I purchased AcoustiPack so I can get the last little bit of noise dampened on my Fusion HTPC build, the system itself is quiet with exception of when it does extensive hard drive seeking, and suspension is not an option so I am trying AcoustiPack. I purchased the deluxe kit, and was wondering if it ...

How can you doubt I.B.M.? Their R&D is second to none, judging by the fact that they get more patents per year than any other corporate entity by far, and that they are increasingly more focused on R&D rather than manufacturing. AMD is collaborating with I.B.M. on this technology, so I think we sti...

Not a big fan of that case 60mm and 80mm fans. Consider a Fusion or a NSK2400. Of course you would have to switch to a mATX board, not sure what the current Intel selection is like. As for the PSU the NeoHE is not audible in my Fusion build. And I am using quieter fans then stock. Most of the bad re...

My solution to the storage problem. Network Attached Storage devices, I can hide them anywhere, and because all they are is a low power processors and a ton of drives they don't make that much noise to begin with. I put Western Digital 500GB hard drives in it. That gives you about 2TB of RAID 5 stor...

What exactly are you looking for from your audio, both the Transit and the M-audio PCI cards allow DTS/AC-3 pass through. They both also allow bit perfect audio from ASIO sources. One problem with the Transit is that it requires you to switch on the driver control panel one mode to another. I am hop...

I haven't mounted an IR receiver yet (still waiting for my Ricavision IR receiver to come in). But I have taken the case apart and replaced the VFD. First you can replace the VFD with the Thermaltake Medialab VFD. But you have to cut a slot in the back for the cables to extend out of. This VFD also ...

The MCE drivers that I used at the time that I did the benchmark sucked, so that might be why the score is so low. 3DMark is a test of your video card, the 6600 is a good video card, but it's not a great one. My A64 3700, with 2 GB of cheap RAM, and a 6800GT tops out at about 10-11k on the 2001 version. I am waiting for the P182 to come out and I will put together, my quietish (aka not quiet but more quiet then ...

I recommend the Dell widescreens for several reasons: They generally perform well; they are priced well (especially if you catch one of their frequent coupons or sales); and you can set the monitor itself to control how it displays a non-widescreen signal. You can set it to stretch the image or to ...
