Re: Why do you have a SFF computer?

I'm aiming at building a gaming setup into an In-Win KB623 (BK644/Mt Jade), the reason being I think larger cases adds bulk to the room.
OTOH, I agree in that it's more expensive and limits choices, so just might dump the quest.

+1 on changing the CPU HS, just about anything but the bundled HS will be quieter (read quests's suggestions above). The PSU and GPU is already quieter, so they're good. Can't see the case in itself as a problem, start with changing fans (now only CPU left), and you'll have a lot more silence. Next ...

Re: Low air resistance, low fan speed, low noise technique

I'd say that, as always, it depends on many factors. A non-mesh front would hinder a direct sound path (=good), but then the opening left might be too tight, causing impedance (=sound, bad). Also, fans might give resonance noise in certain enclosures. So, no straight answer from me...

Re: Smaller quiet and cool cases that are easy to work with?

I quite like the In-Win KB623/644, for mATX - very short and small overall. Don't know how easy they are to work inside though. A real con is that the PSU is SFX size, not much to choose from there, and overly expensive. Otherwise I hear good things about the NSK3480. Sorry, no personal experience o...

I'd guess the restart is due to overheat, possibly caused by heatsinks not having enough contact. Have you moved the cased recently, so the heatsinks could have gotten out of place? Re: EarthWatt 380W vs 500W efficiency for low consumption NA

I'd agree about the 500W probably being noisier, albeit maybe more efficient at that load (haven't checked the exact figures). Noisewise there could be a problem with the fan not being able to ramp down from 500W to 60W, fans usually needs at least 50% of max speed to start reliably. Could be that y...

Re: turn fans off

You could try speedfan, and set default speed to something low - most fans need at least 5V (approx 60%) to start reliably. Setting default speed to say 30% should keep them off most of the time. Experiment with the interval to find appropiate speed curve - easiest would be the full 70%, i.e. no fan...

Hi Darkpoem, do you live in Sweden (Tavlesjö)?

Try the almighty prisjakt.nu, here's a link to mITX cases with 120 mm fans.

Simple as that.

Same search on newegg.com, desktop or tower, for example.

(Basically Lian-Li PC-Q08 or Silverstone Sugo SG05/06)

Re: How high is the CPU socket on a motherboard

Adding to that, PCB is about 2 mm thick, and standoffs are usually 8 mm high (i recall clearance below PCB must be 6 mm, I'll try and check the ATX spec and reconfirm). All in all, Heatsink starts at approx 18 mm from motherboard plate (= case inside if you screw standoffs directly into case side pa...

Welcome to SPCR!

Now, always pick low hanging fruits first (read the primer in this forum).

In short, find your noisiest parts - shut off all but one fans, in turn, compare noise between them. Also, compare to HHD noise.

This will guide you to what needs to be changed.

Re: Silent Gaming System Build Guide

As for modding the case, would you get (even) better temps if reversing the air flow? I.e. flipping the top case fan, and modding the GPU cooler to blow out. That way the CPU/MB would get cooler air - only seems the GPU is running hot as it is, having fresh air intake and all. I was thinking of a si...

Re: Mount a Fan on 5750 silent cell

Welcome to SPCR!

And I agree w Mike, temps are OK, the heat sink is designed to run w/o a fan, provided you have some case air flow going, which you obviously seem to have. Myself have pondered getting this card, or it's older brother the 5770, and ducting a case fan directly to the heatsink.

I've done something similar, but with a Y-splitter for 3-pin. This way you don't have to butcher the fan wires. Cut the red wire to one of the plugs, and the black wire from the other. Strip the insulation on the plug wires some 10 mm, and connect them. Solder, or just cover with electrical tape. Cu...

It depends on what you deem as quiet. For starters, you have 12 fans, which will add 11 dB to the noise of only one fan, if they all ar run at the same speed. This then has to be added to your background noise, resulting in your audible noise level. Example: background noise in my suburban house is ...
