Re: Passive HS misconceptions
The Ninja, NCU-2000, and HR-01 do not include provisions for fan mounting for that reason. What do mean? The ninja at least comes with fan mounting. HR-01 is not released yet but the only review I’ve seen had a fan on it. A purely passive HS such as the Ninja, when mounted 1/8" away from a screamin...

you definitely dont want to OC with cool and quiet if you use any multipliers less than the default one Well that’s one of the things DFI has solved in there BIOS. They let you choose the max multiple that Cool'n'Quiet is allowed to use. It can be done in BIOS, it’s just that the other manufacturer...

I'm personally not waiting. Just like you I don’t see any good reason. AMD will have a new ddr2 socket out next year as you know. But I tend to stay away from first revision components. They are very often expensive, plagued with problems and offer little gain. The first M2 boards will probably be e...

I would go back to the Abit and ditch the Raptor for a cheap, quiet hard disk (barracuda 7200.7 SATA) As for the Asrock, I don't see the point unless you have a nice AGP card. Asrock: the point is price as he just pointed out. If you dont need the space why not go the raptor route? I know I would. ...

Zalman Z700 & NV Silencer 5 rev 2/3 -- these are tough to review as VGA card temp monitoring is the pits. For the VGA cards are exact temps really a necessity? I think it’s more about the noise and about how the coolers affect other temps, i.e. does the silencers ability to evacuate heat or the Zal...

I have a few questions about the 2000. I use my keyboard mostly for gaming and as such I have a few specifics I am looking for besides it being quiet. If I understand correctly the keys on the 2000 are pretty low? Meaning that you don’t have to press down on them very far. That would be a good thing...

Review of the Scythe Ninja against Thermaltake Big Typhoon http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coolers/display/5-cool.html The Ninja comes out on top but they use a 1600 rpm fan on the Ninja against a 1300 rpm on the Typhoon. So Typhoon is quieter they claim, which of course depends on the fan used. Pa...

Motherboard readings of temperatures are very unreliable. They differ from motherboard to motherboard. Even different bios or different revisions of the same motherboard can differ a lot. It’s actually the maker of the boards that choose how to interpret the temp sensors and which one they use. So c...

The 80 Plus and Intel power load testing scheme (which we use) assumes that the maximum +5VSB and -12V line rated power is needed. So subtract 9.6W + 12.5W from 500W, and you get 477.9W. Now look at 639W, and subtract 9.6W + 12.5W from that as well. You get 616.9W. This means the ratio of 456 / 616...

After reading the latest PSU article here at SPCR I followed the link to formfactors.org and found this: The 4-Wire Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Controlled Fans v1.3 defines the intended operation of a fan that implements the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control signal on the 4-wire fan interface. The closest you get to a board like the nf7-s rev2 is definitely the DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR. It tops all other boards in overclocking and has the largest enthusiast and bios support. Nice Article. I wonder how a dedicated VGA card would impact airflow. The intended airflow also makes it impossible to use a VGA cooling solution that exhausts the air out the case e.g. Arctic cooling VGA silencer. You really should upgrade the test environment to something more modern. An AMD 64 on...
