Good luck Dave! I just ordered all the components to build my new computer with. Didn't get any "silencing" products yet. I'll wait and see how it goes. It's a good thing I waited too, because I don't think the Zalman ZM80A-HP will work with my new Asus P4PE board. Looks like the DIMM slots are in ...

Oiling fans
I noticed that my rear exhaust fan (panaflo) is a bit louder than last week. Do you think removing the sticker and oiling it will improve it (or cause catastrophic, world-bending trouble)?

Have you seen the Cooler Master ATC-500? This is a case I am considering when I build my girlfriend's next computer.

I tried that heatsink for a couple of weeks. I liked it, but in order to get sufficiently low temps for my P4 (2.4B), I had to turn the fan volume up to its 'mid' setting. The fan noise got louder, so I decided on something else. Overall, I'd say it's a fine heatsink, but it wasn't quite as silent a...

would it be better if i got a setup with an aluminum case with 2 rear 80mm Panaflo L1A's for exhaust, zalman 300 apf, and a zalman fan bracket cooler? thanks guys. Last night, I was bored and started playing around. I made this contraption that cools the ZM80 down to just barely warm levels, under ...

I wonder if a ZM-50 plus an 80mm fan could cool my G4 4200 sufficiently? The ZM-80 is way too heavy, in my opinion. I wouldn't put a ZM-50 on a Ti 4200. I tried putting a ZM-50 on the GF3 on my girlfriend's computer (a Dell), and it overheated, crashing frequently during her favorite and only game,...

hey Yes, I have the 9700 Pro fanless.. well, sort of. A lot has gone on since I made this post :D Let me explain. Strangely, over the last week or so, the weather here in Austin has gotten warmer (In January..Hmm..), so my apartment's a bit warmer than usual because I can't justify using A/C in Janu...

If you're looking at LCDs, take a look at the Samsung 191T (or Dell 1900FP equivalent). They have stellar image quality (19"@1280x1024), and can be found for very reasonable prices online. I've owned mine for about 4 months, when they were an arm and a leg to purchase, and still couldn't be happier....

I have a Cooler Master ATC-111 aluminum case. I bought the (too expensive) case mostly because of its looks, space, and great (airflow) cooling. My case temp is a consistent 22c. That said, I did buy the case knowing that I couldn't benefit from the aluminum in any other realistic manner. While I li...

For those who might have a similar problem pulling them through the fan holes in tight spaces, this is what I did: I took fishing line and tied a knot around the knobby end of the isolator. Then, I melted the knot using a soldering iron. I then pulled the line through the case hole and the fan hole....

You pull them through the case, and then through the fan mounting holes. It's incredibly difficult (aggravating) to install them in tight spaces. In my case, a Cooler Master ATC-111, the front two fans are aligned vertically, with very little clearance between the two fans. It took me almost 2 hours...

Fan Isolators experience (good report)
Hey I bought a few sets of fan isolators from Silicon Acoustics, and installed them today. They are basically blue, rubber (?) screw-like things that you use to replace the screws hard-mounting your fans to your case. They're basically the same type of isolator that Dells have mounting their 92mm fa...

For what it's worth, because of the cost and limited quantity of the AS3, this is what I did. I used AS3 on the connection between the GPU chip (9700 Pro) and the ZM80A (don't have a ZMNB32J), then used the supplied grease on the connections between the plates and the pipe. This seems to work very w...

Happy New Year Excellent. I was hoping you would say that the insurance was taking care of it. This guy sounds like a real loser. I can't say with certainty about CA laws , but you should first approach your insurance company about the summons. However, I'd recommend that you first find out exactly what it was you signed. If it was a waiver that the insurance company is no longer responsible for any future claims on that acci...

There was an audible difference, but it wasn't "night and day". It reduced a bit of the whoosh and "hollowness" of the interior of the case. And before I installed the Smart Drive, it helped a little with the high-pitched whine of the hard drive. I don't regret paying $12 for it. However, at the tim...

Thanks My case temp is 22c under normal/load, but my cpu temp is 52c normal and 57c load. The silent cpu cooler is indeed silent, but I think it runs pretty hot. I might end up replacing that with the zalman flower when I get the motivation. Yes, definitely. My psu exhausts rather warm air. I heard ...

Hey Yeah, the ZM80A-HP and ZM80-HP both fit the 9700/9700 Pro. (The only difference between the A and the standard is a slight recess at one edge of one of the heatsinks to compensate for possible install problems.) You do have to put a little more goop on it to to make up for the gap between the sh...

New Fan Question
Hey I just got 4 Panaflo FBA08A12L fans, and they have 2 pin connectors. I cut off the plastic piece that prevents me from putting it on a 3 pin connector, and (my test sample) seems to work ok. I attached it to a Zalman Fan Mate controller, and it seems to be ok there too. Am I doing something bad?...

I used to have a 8200 (2.5GHz w/ 9700 Pro), and currently a 4300) that I use as my sound reference. At idle, it was extremely quiet with passive cooling on the video card. The video card fan was by far very audible otherwise. I replaced that with a Zalman ZM80-HP, but on the Dell it wasn't satisfact...

Thanks for the thorough reply, Seishino. I'm using a Dell Dimension 8200 and a 4300 as my reference. They are almost inaudible from 3 feet away. My case is a Cooler Master ATC-111. HERE I'm using a Q-Technologies 2300 PSU. I'm living in Austin, TX. The local Fry's here is okay, but I really only go ...
