I just got the Gigabyte verison of the 5770 for my new P55 i5-750 system and its extrememly quiet. With a Thermalright Ultra 120 with 120mm Nexus fan, Intel SSD and WD Green 750 gig drive, its more or less inaudible. I played some NFS: Shift at 1920x1080 with 4x AA and all quality options set to hig...

My WD4000KD first look and impressions

Well Im still wating to get in the i-RAM, but I just got in some of the new 400GB 16MB form Western Digital. First impressions in my view are that they are pretty quiet. Ther is no whining at all, just the smooth whooshing sound of air over the platters. Its no louder than my existing 3200JD which I...

Hes been getting a lot of requests to check it out..icluding companies like Lockheed and Kodak, so Im not sure i...

Nope...dont want to either.

As long as you had some type of airflow youd be ok. Maybe keep up a steady bean diet to keep the methane flowing.

I guess if you put it up there with some sorbothane, the vibrations could be reduced. Im not sure if suspending would even be an option. OK...Ill stop before we get into the "airflow" issues. :D

Well we are planning on running the cards in either a new ATI Crossfire or N-Force 4 mobo which with both have native support for SATA II integrated into them. We really want the SATA II i-rams but they wont be out for some time it seems. It going to be teh roxxorz!!!!!1 either way though.

Those speeds would be from RAM drive to RAM drive. Remember the bottleneck would be the HD and waiting for it to finish writing/reading. RAM drives are great for I/Os and random read and writes, but large data transfers will be limited by the hard drive youre writing to/from.

Since it will use SATA II, the pci or pcie slot would only be used for mounting and power. I dont think the number of lanes even matters. He didnt have any specifics on what they would do in the next gen version, but he said they were working on it...I guess well have to wait and see.

Run the OS on the Rator with your programs. If you short partition the drive - make it 20 gigs and leave the rest of the drive unpartitioned - you can actually reduce seek times even lower. When you partition the large storage drive, make a static page file of 400 to 500 MB right away so it is on th...

Thats no problem. Remember that raptors are enterprise level drives so they can handle a lot more abuse than most home users can deliver. They have their own built in heatsinks even. Dont worry about them at that temp.
