I just completed my first quiet PC build with the 3000B. I have a few questions. What are you guys using as filters for the front bottom hole and the side ducts? I have taped up the CPU duct in mine but I found that leaving the lower duct open, lowered the temperature of my passively cooled 6800 vid...

I just built a system with this case and there is a noticeable difference in temperature when the front face is removed. Clearly, the vents in the bottom do not allow in enough air. With teh front face removed, the air coming out of the PSU feels cooler and the video card was 5 degrees Celsius coole...

I believe you are referring to the 80-20 rule.
I usually think of Pareto efficiency when I think of Pareto.

Re: Quiet PC build, thoughts, ideas, impressions...
Big changes in the system. Seems the budget was increased. See below for the new set-up. Case: Antec SLK3000-B PSU: Seasonic Super Silencer 400 CPU/Mobo: AMD 64-3500+ (90nm) and Asus A8V Deluxe Wifi Video card: I broke down and decided to use the Gigabyte Heatpipe 6800 (GV-N68128DH). Cooling and fan...

Fanmate 2 and determining voltage levels
Couldn't find info from a seach so here it goes: How are people determining the voltage levels supplied to the fan while using the Fanmate 2? I am about to set up a system using them. I see references to using the Fanmate at 5V (which I gather is turning it all the way down) or at 6V or higher. I am...

Beware of iSellSurplus. The 80mm fans Yate Loons were most certainly not Yate Loons when they arrived. The decal is white and has the part num ber MW-825H12S II and not 8025M12. I called to let then know that they shipped the wrong fan but they think they are the same. It looks like I might have a b...

Interesting thread on Anandtech: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview ... TMP=Linear
Conclusion: performace gain from expensive RAM = marginal and value priced RAM (~$140/Gig) works just fine.

Oh yeah, which firmware helps. I was checking out the forum and I was overwhelmed by the amount of information (kind of like I was here at SPCR). I saw lots of different firmware for the 3500 and I wasn't sure which to use. I see Liggy and Dee have a V2 beta2 thread. Is that the one? This is the lin...

I assume you mean nforce4. I am trying to hold off but I need to get this thing built before I get a real job (the reverse of the usual situation). I would like to get a nforce4 ultra board when they come out. For the vidoe card, I am torn between getting a card that comes passive or adding heatsink...

This case discussion is leaving me completly confused. I was planning on covering up the side vents of whatever case I get. I wanted to have a nice, roomy interior in which to work. Apparently there are 4 cases being discussed now: SLK2650-BQE 3000B 3700-AMB 3700-BQE I was interested in the 3000B be...

Still on the LCD discussion... I have been researching the Dell 2001FP and 2005FPW. From what I read, the actual LCD is an LG. I saw the LG LCD in an LG screen last night (looks like the one from the 2001FP) and it is quite nice looking. One of the places that I was doing my research was here for th...

Thanks for the welcome and the info. This site looks like an excellent source of info. It looks like the SLK3700BQE is definetly the way to go. My hard drives are 1) a Samsung SP1604N (and coincidently recommended by this site) and 2) WDC WD800AW. I am thinking that I would be well served by replaci...

Quiet PC build, thoughts, ideas, impressions...
I have been ordered (by my wife) to build a quiet computer. I have been reading and researching for a couple of days and this is what I have come up with so far. Here is the rough draft of the build with as much detail as possible. Goals: Quiet computer for $1400 or less ($1200 would probably be bet...
