Typically, when using forced convection via fans and heatsinks with fans, natural convection takes a back seat. It isnt until you start passively cooling components were natural convection shows up. Even so, a slight breeze flowing by the "passively cooled" components would be enough to overwhelm na...

Jab-tech has been very good to me. I really like this etailer. It is odd that they place the Yateloon elsewhere - its almost tough to find actually. At the risk of having another seller have their stock wiped out, I just saw that the Yate Loon D12SL-12 is in stock at Jab-tech - and cheap too! I boug...

Introducing Seagate's 7200.9: The New Generation Seagate is also reporting a lower sound rating between 25-28 decibels while the drives are idle, and about 28-32 decibels while the drives are seeking for data. The lowest amount of sound audible by human ears is 26 decibels, so the idle noise output...

nice job so far! I would probably remove the HDD bays, the floppy drive (havent used one in 3 years), and the floppy bays. Suspend the harddrive in the 5.25" bays or buy one of those silent drive kits if you dont wanna go through the hassle of bungee cords purchasing. GL!! Its a never ending process...

Nici - What you say is true to a certain extent. The biggest difference imho is the power supply in the cd players (good ones, not best buy ones). Most of the cost in equipment is in the power supplies and the chassis. Cleaner power ~ cleaner sound. At least thats what I have come to learn and hear....

Phantom 350 is the passive psu by Antec. They also make a hybrid passive/active cooled psu called the phantom 500. In US dollars, the are roughly 150$ and 175$ respectively. As many mobos have the 4pin in the now-annoying upper left corner, interest in psu compatibility is high. I hope people answer...

The reason your case temps may be so high is it looks like your radiator fan is blowing inward. This means all the heat from your processor is going inside your case. If you reverse this fan you will probably see a reduction in your system temp but an increase in your cpu temp. Wow, how could you t...

I have a pair of Grado 325i headphones and was happy with the quality of the Audigy2, good headphnes like these reveal flaws in sound pretty easy. You think thats a nice step up from the portable players? Try plugging it into an integrated amp, or good receiver, or amp. Boy, does it sound so much b...

One of the bad things about the cd industry now is they are starting to make it very difficult to play their cds on computer cd players. Take the newest Foo Fighters CD. very informative read! Thanks! Sata cables do come out much easier than PATA cables. A slight tug can remove the cable from the electronics. I've found this to be a good thing. When removing the sata cable, i dont have to pull with such force that my hand jerks backwards and hits my graphics card (g...

yes, it is possible for fan manufactures to fudge specification numbers they list. In fact, I would say 90% of all fans out there have fudged specs.Pendu wrote:Look at the sats for this fan is that possible?

Thanks for your replies. I was running the drive on a cardboard box i had lying around so I could effectively stick my head near it to listen. Samsung 160GB Nidec SATA -doesnt seem "that" quiet
I bought a samsung 160GB Nidec SATA from microcenter and its idle doesnt seem all that quiet to me. Am I just nitpicking? I guess I figured it would have been a great improvement over my WD Raptor 74 which is only slightly louder at idle. (Granted my WD is suspended on bungee cord) The samsung sound...
