Re: low cost quiet PSU

well, I said low-cost in a way that I don't need top-performance top-quality PSU that cost more then 100 euro, but price range of 40 to 60 euro is OK for me. current locale is Vienna, so SS-350ET-F3 could be found: http://geizhals.at/539915 BQT E7-400W is not so widely available, and a little bit mo...

low cost quiet PSU

hello. I'm planning to make a low-budget HTPC. as I already sad in other topic, it should be quiet, but it doesn't have to be completely silent. so, I guess any PSU with 300W or more would be enough. culrently, options are something like: Antec EarthWatts EA-380D Green 380W ~ 42 euro PC Power & Cool...

Re: low-budget HTPC

thx, matt! a lot of info! considering software-based decode and looking on Intel's current low-end line-up, we can see: Celeron 530 : 2.4GHz, 2 cores, no-HT, no-Turbo, 2MB L2 cache, ESS http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Celeron_Dual-Core/Intel-Celeron%20Dual-Core%20G530.html Pentium 620 would bring 2.6G...

Re: low-budget HTPC

so, if I don't need anything more then just plain HTPC with some low-performance storage in it, I'm good with G530 and even H61 board.

should I take care of sound card type/connectors if I'll use low (or maaaaaaybe mid) range sound system, or that is good on all these boards?

low-budget HTPC

hello. I'm considering some low-budget HTPC. it will be used as HD/SD media player and storage. it should be quiet, but it doesn't have to be silent. if I choose to power it by: (1) Celeron G530 & some H67 / Z68 board or maybe (2) A4-3300 & some A55 / A75 board would it be enough CPU power for CPU-b...

Samsung F2 reliability :(

Just wanted to infrom everybody to keep away from Samsung F2 . This advice is based on my personal experiance. All other experiances with Samsung F2 are welcome. I have 32 of them in 3 different boxes on (different hardware, different locations etc.) and reliability statistics are very very bad: - 5...

4. The desktop WD drives should not be used in any other RAID configs other than 0 and 1 (read: not 0 + 1, only to be used in RAID 0 or RAID 1) as they have the crucial TLER feature disabled. TLER is apparently required for RAID configs to function properly. Given the potentially massive amounts of...

I have the same problem:

since I'm linux user, there's no ATI/AMD cards for me.
it's been like that forever.
ATI/AMD just doesn't care about linux, so my next upgrade will probably be 7900GS to some "green" GTS 250.

you can try disabling head parking - maybe your drives will work that way.

I have Asus P5Q Premium with 5 fan headers, but I can control only 3 of them. I want to connect more (2 or 3) fans to every of these 3 controlable headers. fans are Noctuas ranging from 1.1 to 1.44W (factory specification). xbit labs state it's more probable about 1.0 to 1.1W each. so, is there some...

nice temps.

I've put one slowed down Noctua (~500rpm) on the unused hdd cage and it blows directly between the Accelero and the gfx card, cooling both Accelero and RAM chips on the card.

I have Accelero S1 rev2, too.

I removed plastic parts from edges of the cooler. that way last aluminium fin is a lot more open to airflow.

don't know if that made a difference, but it can't hurt neither. :)

Quiet UPS ?

I've tested 2 of APC BackUPS 500VA and they were quiet.

I've tested 4 of APC BackUPS 650VA and everyone of them was "squiling/buzzing" while it was 20 - 60% loaded.

I need more then 500VA (300W), so I cannot use fist type.
Is there any suggestion for quiet UPS 650VA - 1000VA ?
