Re:
rather odd..... The POINT of a fanless system, where one pays more for the fanlessness...should be to have a whole system operate with...say...ONE fan ..TOTAL. One mentioned above.....put the fanless PSU IN THE CASE......and below the mobo. Awww. You want it OUTSIDE the main chamber with rather open...

Hopefully someone with experience of your required setup will respond. But if not, in the past when I've been unsure about which runs quietest or coolest, I've ordered from QuietPC.com who have a 30 day money back guarantee, and they specially cater to our market. Never had to use the guarantee but ...

Thanks for the info guys. What temps do the stock 5850/5870 run at? Running Furmark, mine goes to 85C. If I tick the Xtreme Burning Mode on FurMark it shoots up to 95C, at which point I stopped the test! Was hoping to be able to run totally passive, to optimise convectional cooling but guess that's ...

5770 temperatures
Would be interested to hear what sort of temperatures people are getting with their 5770 cards and cooling setups. I'm using a Sapphire 5770 with stock cooler removed and replaced with Thermalright HR-03 Rev A. Running a passively cooled Intel i7 860 2.8GHz with Scythe Orochi Rev.B heatsink. Etasis ...

I went with this one from ebay UK http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350263793156&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT Works fine. Note that with this setup there is a problem in that after some idle time when the monitor goes to sleep it unlinks from the display group and doesnt wake up prope...

Can you do 2560x1600 on all heads? ps. eww, LCD screens with VGA inputs :( When I bought those LCDs, quite a few years back, DVI ones were too expensive. So they'll have to do for now :) I believe it can do that on all heads, but I cant test as my old vga screens dont support that res. But check th...

ATI 5770 and triple screen works!
Just to let you know that the new ATI cards work well with 3 screens. There is a limitation on the cards though. You have to make use of the DisplayPort for the 3rd screen. If you dont have a DisplayPort screen then you either have to use an Active DisplayPort to DVI adaptor (expensive), or a Displa...

Thanks, I will search out the Antec 300, Scythe Orochi thread. The thing I forgot to mention is that I have 3 PCI Sonic Core Scope soundcards in my PC. So I really want to avoid having the PSU at the bottom, as I fear the soundcards will get too hot that way since the PCI slots are so close. Swivelg...

PowerColor SCS3 HD5750 http://www.powercolor.com/Global/products_features.asp?ProductID=6648 looks like the most powerful fanless card you can buy. Best case for totally passive system[?]
Up to know I have been running my passive system in an old large tower case (70cm high!) I've had the case for about 13 years, so was thinking of finally upgrading to something else. Because it doesnt look that great, and also because it's just slightly too high to fit under my desk. So can anyone r...

The thermalright HR-03 http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/vga/hr03reva/product_vga_cooler_hr03reva.htm is supposed to fit according to their compatibility page. Not sure how it compares to the Accelero 1 or 2. But it would work quite well for me as you can place it wrapped around th...

Just to report that my Etasis EFN-300 has been running fine since Feb 2005! Has been used in my main PC all this time. In fact it outlasted the motherboard, which recently bust. Now I wonder if it will run my intended new setup. i7 2.8Ghz 1156. The killer is I want to use a fanless GeForce 9800GT gr...

The NCU-2005 uses the same heatspreader for AMD or Intel. It comes with different fixings for the 775 cpu, and an extra backplate. See http://www.scythe.co.jp/en/cooler/manual/NCU2005.pdf So not sure how easy it will be to put it on an 1156 i7. Guess I'll just have to wait and see once I get my moth...

I was thinking of trying the same thing with my old Scythe NCU-2005. It's been cooling my setup passively for about 4 years now. Would be great if I could use it with the new 1156 i7 setup I'm planning to build. Not sure if a totally fanless approach like my old setup will work though with these hot...

Thank you all for your feedback. So it seems some Spinpoints, JVC and Nidec, vibrate more than others. It's odd that they are so noisy when screwed into the case, I've not had that much noise with any other drive. But once suspended it is probably the quietest drive I've ever heard (or should that b...

My SpinPoint is also Nidec. Very quiet seek and write, but vibrates a lot on idle. In a SilentDrive enclosure screwed in it made a real racket as the vibration resonated through the whole case. Placing the bare drive or the SilentDrive enclosure on some foam solves the noise issue, so it definitely ...

Samsung SP1614C RMA process in the UK
My new Samsung SP1614C vibrates like hell, and makes my whole case hum, even in a SilentDrive enclosure. Does anyone know if it possible to RMA the drive direct to Samsung UK via a swapout, where they ship a replacement drive and give the old drive to the courier at the same time, or send it later. ...

Fanless Thermaltake, Silverstone or Etasis PSU
I was wondering if anyone has compared these fanless PSUs, or has experience of the Thermaltake one. I couldnt find any reviews of the Thermaltake which compared it to any other fanless PSU. It's heatsink/pipe combination seems much bigger than the other fanless PSUs around, so I was wondering if it...
