About Prosilence quality..those large 200v capacitors in Prosilence 350w have 470UF rating. All quality PSU's I've seen use 680UF caps. I wonder are the caps inside even rated at 105C...probably not. So now we wait for fanless TS Heatronics PSU and the Fortron 200W. I've sent mail to both companies ...

Very interesting information. I'm finnish too and was disappointed to the Nexus 400w. I have Barracuda IV 80Gb on my system. Had some coil whine problems in the past but I corrected them with the ferrite ring trick. The electronics in the Barracuda hard drives ain't too impressive. First the coil wh...

L&C and Deer are brands used by the same manufacturer. I've heard of some "300W" models of these labels being sold to retailers for under US$10 ($7 to be precise). Avoid them like the plague is what I have been told by people in the know in the PSU industry. Not sure whether they are made by Channe...

I've had that smell during the first few days of use in every PSU I've had. HEC, Antec Truepower, Nexus 400..it's normal. And yes, I got nauseous of it too. "Brominated flame-retardants are a class of brominated chemicals commonly used in electronic products as a means for reducing flammability. In ...

Well Mike, you know my system load, it was 160 watts AC power max. I have one Papst NGL blowing air in and one blowing it out. The MB temperature was around 32 degrees C while idling. When I was looping 3DMark, the MB temp was 39-40 degrees and the noise was then over TP levels. I do not trust those...

Just be aware that you do shorten the lifespan of most PSUs when you drastically reduce airflow. I killed a couple in 12-24 months with 5V panaflo mods. (Not the same as a swap for a slower/ quieter fan with thermistor control intact: at least this does increase fan speed / airflow when PSU gets ho...

Modding Antec Truepower
As I've now sent back the Nexus 400w, which was noisier than TP under heavy load, I've decided to try modding Truepower. I've been thinking to take out the fans, mount a 92mm Papst under the PSU case to reduce air flow noise. 80mm fan would probably be mounted to inside. Instead using the wires insi...

Nexus 400W PSU - initial reactions
My Nexus arrived today. It was heavy, little more heavier than my previous PSU, Antec Truepower 430W. I also disabled the fan on my Sapphire 9700 card and replaced it with Papst NGL. After installing I briefly tested it with all other fans disabled(2xNGL, one blowing air in, other blowing it out, 1X...

Yes the dif between 20 and 14 dB is pretty big but I am only guesstimating and quoting claimed numbers. I will say this: there's no question the 14 dB SilenX sample I have is by far the quietest fanned PSU I have ever heard -- by no small margin. Even at full power output, it is amazingly quiet. At...

Version 1.2 of Prosilence Fanless
There is now new version in www.silentmaxx.de website that was introduced in Cebit. I asked what are the differences:
"The new Fanless has a new PFC element, an other power switch, and the wire are new."
Still I have my doubts about it and would really like to see MikeC reviewing it.

It doesn't speed the fans up just sitting in idle (which is what the enermaxes do -- the "whisper" labelling is a gross misrepresention). Normally the TPs stay at start up fan speed till >100W. I would call them noise-reduced. The fan quality is average. Yes, it doesen't speed up the fans, that's t...

Do you think these would work? And you need to put them on the IDE power cable to the HD ? http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?DID=7&Product_ID=3057 It's best to use a ring shaped ferrite and tie the power cable on it. Like this: http://www.mh.ttu.ee/risto/rc/electronics/images/esc/future35...

I had the same problem and tried different power supplies too. I installed a ferrite ring to the power cable that goes to the Barracuda. It decreased the whine so that it could be only heard after listening the PSU at close range. I know a guy who solved the problem by soldering capacitors to the +5...

I have similar experiences with a Fortron 350W PSU. Fan was VERY noisy, it made whining sound when on and even when the computer was off there was buzzing sound. When I put my ear next to it, it sounded like couple of stakes frying on pan. BTW, when the standby power is on and listening closely next...

If you have the fan speed monitor plugged in what's the rpm on the fan? If it's over 1500 (or there abouts) it's likely you have a faulty sensor, which means return it/RMA it. AntecRep The RPM was around 1500 at boot up. I didn't leave it plugged in to see how much it increases because Papst N/GL f...

Re: Even quieter seasonic PS
Put Vantec stealth using EAR mount. By putting my hand on it, I verified it reduces the vibration of PSU by more than half. (my case is already modded so there is no metal to metal contact on PSU from case so the result could be different if there was hard metal to metal contact - presumably even m...

Opinion about Antec 430W Truepower
What a disappointment! After getting a new system and a Antec 1080 case I expected the sound level will be at least around the same than before or more silent. I tested my system without any other fans awhile. The sound level was even then very annoying. Before I had a 350W LR-PT Heroichi(HEC) PSU t...
