Anyone with the Zen care to comment on it's TV-out? I'm torn between getting the SilentX powersupply for my SN41G2 or starting scratch and getting the Zen. For an HTPC. Don't know if you intend to use the PCI for sound or something else, and I don't know how good the Zen TV out is, but I decided to...

The way I see it, the main point is to cool down the PC without using a fan. As to the amount of heating of the floor, there is at least some heat that will make the floor less cold (at least if the PC is on 24/7). One idea could be to have a 3D render farm where the water is going out of one PC, do...

watercooling and heated floor?

Anybody who have tried this or have any thoughts about it? A water cooled pc where the heated water is then run through pipes in the floor to heat the floor/cool the water. Is this just plain stupid or an interesting idea? I guess it would need a lot of distilled water and algae-killer stuff :-)

I have an old compaq ( no, I've never bought a compaq, I got it). It has a P2-300MHz. The PSU is located directly over the CPU. The CPU is running without a fan, and the PSU fan is undervolted (I think it's about 5v, but I just moved the thermistor in the PSU, so I don't know for sure). No o...

You might also want to have a look at the Sigma Designs XCard and the Jove player (www.8dim.com). The output of the XCard is equal to the output from a good DVD player, and the Jove player has a nice OSD (on-TV) menu (which you can configure), and some extra features.

The info in the undervolting mobo-list about AOpen MX4GR seems to be wrong. One solution might be to use two 55W PSUs. A PSU tester can be used to power on one PSU (or I think it's possible to connect two of the cords to tell the PSU it should deliver power (not sure which two)). On a separate issue: am I right that monitoring the temperature of the CPU's thermal diode would be difficult? I suppose it would involve an interface to the motherboard's i2c or SMB system. Difficult, but probably not impossible. Some mobos have an SMBus header on them, you'd have to figure out bu...

Yeah, I find flat cables easier to shape than rounded cables. Fold them and the pretty much hold their shape. It takes zap straps or something similar to get a rounded cable to hold a bend... Not if you slice them yourself. You can pretty much shape them when you bunch them together, before you put...

The fans on Flex-ATX PSU's come in 2 varieties; 40mm fans on the back, or 80mm fans on the bottom. (Just like micro-ATX's) You may want to shop around for one that has an 80mm on the bottom and then switch the fan with a queiter one. That may be a relatively simple way of making it quieter. The PSU...

Check what silent fans you can get for an ok price. As long as they go slow enough, they don't make much sound. Obstacles very close to the fan make turbulence noise. You don't really need very much air flow, but you need the correct air flow. Just like with water, air pretty much moves where it is ...

The first step is to check your temperatures (CPU, system, HD) and then open the case and see how much space you have. The problem with small fans are that the center with the engine is huge, and the area to push the air through is small. The fan has to run fast, and you get a lot of noise (turbulen...
