You've got me curious though whether Windows Server 2003 will boot without a graphic cards.....that would be ideal. I might be able to offer some insight into this. I run a web-based company. We use Linux for all our development, but of course need to test the site in IE so we have a headless WinXP...

See [*]the hole spacing around the GPU differs from all other cards on the market.[/list]Unfortunately I bought this card in a bit of a rush, right before a LAN party, so I hadn't researched my options properly. It certainly delivers in terms of performance but the noise penalty is high: my system ...

Humph

I just checked the Zalman site. They list the VF700s as: 7800 GT and 7800 GTX (no mention of the GS) and the VF900 as "7800 series (except GS)" Ah well. I'm pretty pissed at the whole having to upgrade to PCI-E thing. I suppose I'll just put it off until my CPU is too old, and then upgrade a bunch o...

Accelero X1 and NV Silencer 5 from Arctic Cooling fits the GF6800 as well as the GF7800, same thing with the VF700 and the VF900 from Zalman. So, supposedly, coolers compatible with the GF6800 series are also compatible with the GF7800 series. Thanks for the reply. I'd assumed heatsinks woudln't be...

In terms of cards themselves, you may want to reconsider. If this is a platform you're sticking with for a few years, the 7800GS is the best you can get. However, if it's just something to hold you over for a few months, the 6800(vanilla) and the X1600 cost about half as much and are still magnitud...

Anyone ideas for making the AGP 7800 quiet?

I have a pretty nice system. Not cutting edge, but pretty nice. Athlon 3300 etc. The only thing that needs any upgrades is the fanless GeForce 4200 video card. I don't do games that often, but it is getting a bit jumpy even for me. The mobo doens't have PCI-E and I don't have the money or energy to ...

Re: Coolest AGP card for headless server?

Perhaps I'm being silly, but why would a headless server need a graphics card? The computer won't boot without an AGP card What a lousy motherboard! I like how they guessed for you that you'd be using a graphical operating system rather than letting you decide. I've never seen this before on even c...

Re: Coolest AGP card for headless server?

I'm looking for a very cool running feature-stripped AGP 4x/8x (1.5v) graphics card to put into a home server I'm building. It's a headless server that I'll only use with Remote Desktop Connection so I just need basic 2D support. Perhaps I'm being silly, but why would a headless server need a graph...

Quite the oposite, the problem is that my monitor produces too much light to be used in a dark room for any length of time, but with TFTs if you turn the brightness down you loose all the dark gray shades to black - hardly ideal for the odd game of quake/tenebrae

...ok, so not to do with PCs directly, but my pc is directly under one and it's driving me crazy! Maybe I'm confusing definitions but to me the "silent" means no noise (ie 0dBA), with quiet meaning little noise. Maybe this is a misconception but I think it's one the industry sees and takes advantage of. As for villans, well I was foolish enough to buy a Thermaltake "silent" psu (it's long since ...

So then why don't Intel etc spend a few extra $ and make super-flat heat spreaders for their cpus? Going off this must be good for an extra 5% performance at least.

You have to measure it somehow! well you have to discribe, I'm not certain that the description has to be a quantative measurement. If it's integer then I'd say via. Much of the Athlon's speed comes from it's fpu.

To be honest, buying and unerclocking an athlon to run on less power is like putting a speed restrictor on a Lamboughini (sp?) for fuel economy.

Whereas the via is a new beetle. Or somthing.

I'd despute anyone who claimed to be able to tell the difference between this and a stock card during gameplay. I mean, who can tell 85 from 110 without a frame rate counter?
