A nice choice for sure, unfortunatley out of my price range this upgrade round & difficult to source at this end of the world. Case, 1800xp, 512mb ddr & m/b cost me $800 NZD so around $400 USD - for that amount I would have only got a barebones shuttle & still had to get cpu & ram. When I next upgra...

If you are going to use debian specifically certain via chipsets can be a bit of a pain. I never managed to get the via8233 audio going under my setup in a P4 box. However, I think the epia support is alot better. A good combo drive to use under linux is the samsung 16x10x32x8 or 32x12x40x8 (i think...

I've also recently upgraded from a 1200 T-bird to a 1800 T-bred & have experienced similar results. I had to specifiically shop around for a T-bird & paid a little more for the retail boxed version with HSF & 3 year warranty rather than the cheaper OEM Palomino no HSF & only 1 year warranty. I had m...

Wow, that is a very nice setup indeed. How on earth did you fit a 92mm fan into it? I take it you managed to track down a half-height AGP card + bracket. They are near impossible to find in this part of world although there is a nice Geforce4 440MX 64MB I may upgrade to later on. Apart from the HSF,...

That confirms my suspisions. Time for me to bust out the angle-grinder? Here is the case: http://www.xtore.com.au/3801.htm I'll get some internal shots up of the fans. There are 2 blue cool-cathodes in it but the way it is designed they can hardly be seen from the outside at all! More hole...

Yeah, I thought that the MB temps were a bit too high, I figured 36-38C would be ideal. A couple of questions: MB Temperature - Where is this temp actually taken from? I've always assumed it to be refering to the northbridge or not? In my case, the northbridge incorporates the GeForce 2 so I assume ...

Nforce + Compact Case

Hi all. In my quest for silence, speed AND small form factor, here is my current configuration: Athlon 1800 XP Thoroughbred Asus nForce micro-ATX motherboard, onboard dolby, 10/100 & GeForce2 MX (fanless). Slimline desktop case. Standard AMD HSF undervolted to 7v 60mm case fan undervolted to 7v (int...

Undervolting the HSF to 5 or at least 7v shouldn't be a problem, my celeron 1.8 (willamite core :( ) with the fan undervolted to 5v only ever got upto 58c under full load & that was in a slim line case. The Northwood core of the CPU should give you even better results in lower cpu temps. I have seve...
