Burn the image of the Samsung HUtil to a cd and boot from it to test the F1 when you get it. Hopefully your drive won't have the errors that many people are experiencing. Which errors are those? I'm asking because this will probably be my next drive also. I'm looking forward to the SPCR review of t...

What we need is a UK distributor. I agree. I don't understand why no distributor in Europe has interest in this product. I think it's already been proven enough now that there is a market for this stuff. Don't they understand that silence enthusiasts are true freaks that are willing to pay a price ...

You can get the Smart Drive here . They ship worldwide. It's indeed a shame that the Smart Drives are so hard to come by. It's almost impossible to get one if you live in Europe! Note: I have no affiliation whatsoever with the link I provided above. I only provide it for other fellow Europeans who w...

I had exactly the same question as you did Zombunny. I've now been using 2 Smart Drive enclosures for two years and I'm very happy with them. They aren't the copper versions though. Now I need two more, and I've also stumbled across the Nexus Drive-a-way enclosures, which to me look like like non-co...

Hmmm. It's been a while since I've opened my Smart Drive, But I believe the top of the drive is pressed against the aluminum heatsink inside of the Smart Drive. This is a flat plate of aluminum, not ribbed. So you think this shouldn't be a problem? As longs as a little air can get to the hole, that ...

Only if You have a PIV system, which has ICH5-R southbridge on the motherboard (some i865/i875-based boards have it). It can build RAID0 array from existing data. Jan, I've got an Intel P4 i865 PERL motherboard, and I 've also been thinking in doing a RAID setup. Do you mean it would be as easy for...

IS it safe to put a Hitachi 7k250 drive into a Smart Drive ?
Hi all! I've been doing some research on which serial ATA drive is the best speed/noise/temperature wise and I think that the Hitachi 7k250 series meet all those requirements the best. (maybe when WD starts shipping FDB drives that will change - side question : does anybody know when this might happ...

Smart Drive Enclosure and S-ATA
Does a Serial-ATA drive fit in a Smart Drive Enclosure ?
I know the connectors are a bit longer, so I could see why it would be possible that it wouldn't fit.
I want to be sure about this before I order a Smart Drive in the US and have it shipped to Europe.
Thanks all !

Maybe you can try the new Maxtor DiamondMax 9+ drive ? Available in sizes 60GB, 80GB, 120GB, 160GB and 200GB. Supposed to be also pretty good in the acoustics department. These guys like it quite a bit. (this is a review for the serial ATA version of the drive, but I expect the ATA133 version to per...

http://www.tomshardware.com/business/20030313/index.html I already posted this but I think it would be good in this thread too. Its a fortron 120mm fanned power supply with an adjustable pot on the back (like some enermax fans have). Also the fan appears to have blue leds built in. This PSU seems p...

I know this doesn't help your problem, but this is FYI : Most Serial ATA HD's that are being produced right now have both the new and the old power plug, and will continue to have so for a certain period of transition. New power supplies with the new harddisk power connectors already attached to the...

I have no information for you concerning wether your drive is faulty or not, but I can tell you that under win2k/XP it's only possible to create FAT32 partitions up to 30gig or so. MS implented this barrier with the sole purpose of pushing the NTFS file system. You can create bigger FAT32 partitions...

Wow, that's a very unsettling noise! I was still considering a 180GXP up to this point, maily because to me it still seemed like that drive is still the best combo of storage capacity/noise level, but now I'm not so sure anymore. But I really haven't got that many options, do I? Maxtor? Ugh. Had a f...

is watercooling really silent? I thought you still needed fans for radiators etc. You do. You still need ONE fan in your system to be put on the radiator. Fortunately, this is a 120mm fan (so it's already pretty silent by itself), but you can eaily have it run on 5v and still have sufficient airflo...

What spec is the rest of your PC? Are you sure you need water cooling? Pretty average PC. P4 2.5, ATi 9700Pro, Two 7200 RPM HD's all on an Aopen AX4PE Max mobo. I know I don't really need watercooling, I just want it. It's still the best solution to get the PC completely silent (well apart from the...

Hi all! I'm new to this forum, but I already like what I see : lots of people like me who want to get rid of the pesky noise that a PC makes! For this reason I have already spent a lot of money on Zalman products and quiet fans but this didn't provide me with the result that I wanted. So now I'm get...
