With the Audigy2, will the volume maxed, there is a tiny bit of hiss. you need to get your ear within 6 inches of the tweeter to be able to hear it. This is a combination of the amp and soundcard noise.

I have an Audigy2 running into an NAD 30 watt amp, driving KEF BBC monitors. Sounds very good. You need more than just a good sound card. The weakest link thing.
