This is still SilentPCReview.com, right? Nobody's mentioning the fact that this would be completely silent. No moving parts whatsoever. Performance-wise (talking about OS and light productivity usage, not gaming, video, sound, or other "heavy uses"), this would be equivalent to having a 3+ disk Raid...

Just a note about Microcenter. I called their online store about "cherry-picking" an SP1213C (SATA version) for me, and they indicated that they don't have a way of attaching a note like that to an order, and that orders are fulfilled from one of several locations. However, she told me that if the d...

You'd have to enclose it because its mostly motor noise, with some vibration. But really, are you gonna fret over the floppy drive? Its dinosaur tech. Just wait until she's done with school and ditch the FDD alogether! Although, honestly, I'd look into an IDE SuperDisk drive from Imation. I use one ...

Maxtor Diamond Max 9 Plus drives with 8MB cache and FDB motor, ATA133 or SATA. Several models use only 1 platter, but I can't remember which ones. Its a compromise. Its faster than any drive from Seagate, and quieter than the speed demons at WD. I run mine with an SATA adapter. It blows the doors of...

Not trying to be insulting or anything, just a simple question. Is it doing anything while it is on at night (like Prime95 or SETI or F@H, etc)? Because if it is not, why not just configure the power profile to shut off the HDD drives after 10 minutes or something like that. Again, I hope that's not...

Are you sure that both fans on that PSU are active? When I went to a P4 C processor from a B I had to re-enable the bottom fan on my 2 fan PSU. It just got too hot without the extra flow. I know its a long shot... I can see from the picks that one problem is that 9800 Pro. Its so long and those IDE ...

Something is hinky in there. Especially if you've got a dual-fan PSU and an exhaust fan. That's REALLY hot for the P4. Are you sure that the heatsink is installed correctly? IE, that you've got good contact on the heatsink and plenty of well-applied grease? That just sounds too hot to even be a vent...

oh.. no, i'm not saying that the springdale is better than canterwood. i just said that abit's IS7 outperformed most canterwoods. canterwood is definitely more superior, especially featurewise. what i meant to state is that the performance gain (6100mb/s from 5900mb/s memory bandwidth) PAT offers i...

To build on what Liquidated is saying: if you are the kind of person (like myself) who wants to run stock speeds as tightly as possible in order to maintain cooling and quiet, and to maintain the lifespan of you parts, then "backdoor" PAT is great because you do indeed get that 3-5% -- actually more...

Re: Fortron power supply with 120mm fan
Note: The (PF) versions are much louder than the non PF versions. If looking for a quiet PSU, Do Not order the FSP300-60PN(PF) or FSP350-60PN(PF) versions. Maybe a stupid question, but what's the difference between a PF version or a non PF version ? http://www.silentpcreview.com/modules.php?op=modl...

Popped my Sparkle FSP350-PN in last night. It's REALLY quiet. I thought my modded HEC-350LDt was quiet. It had a low CFM 80mm in the rear and a disabled 92mm on the underside. This is a LOT quieter than that was. And it hasn't effected my case or CPU temps at all. Which is wild, since I can BARELY f...

Not sure what ruprag meant by "duplex." But if he meant dual-channel, then that is incorrect. 2 x 256 dual channel gives you 512MB total memory available, not 256. It is just accessed via two independent channels instead of one. One channel has 256MB to work with, and so does the other. But the same...

With P4P800, I would ONLY use Kingston HyperX PC3500. Gives you some headroom, runs fast at 400Mhz (2-2-2-5), and is certified for the board. I tried Geil, no dice. Read others trying OCZ and even Corsair and having lots of problems. Corsair recommend their non-LL PC3500, but its way more expensive ...

With Intel, hardware longevity is assured (Socket 478 will stay for a while). ROTFL :D For AMD, socket 7, Slot A (for a very short time) , Socket A (for a > 2GHz range) and soon Socket 940 for the new 64bits. For Intel, in meantime, you've got Socket 7, Slot 1, Slot 2, FC-PGA (aka Socket 370), FC-P...

If you're going to: game (as I guess you will by your handle), rip or burn CDs, do anything with video, or use web browsing features beyond mere HTML (Java, Microsoft VM, ActiveX), then you want the P4 2.4C. modman- wattage is volts* amps, som the fortron has 180 watts, and the enermax 264 watts..... which just goes to prove PSU sellers are lying like dogs. I couldn't agree more. I picked my PSUs based on 1) reliability and 2) airflow, with the mindset that 3) noise can be fixed with "the fan treatment...

Just wondering: Anybody around here ever try to suspend a PSU in an ATX case? If so, what did you use and how did it work out.

I didn't mention it, but I did swap only the memory first. OE's were reduced, but the system hung once each in 3dMark2001 and UT3K Benchmarks. Okay, here's what happened. I went to BestBuy. Good idea. They had Kingston HyperX PC3500 256MB DIMMs on sale with rebate at $57.49 each. I picked up 2. I suspect the PSU. The 5V and 3V lines won't produce anything like those numbers simultaneously, especially if there is a substantial draw on the 12V line. It would be nice to plug in a bigger PSU (like a Fortron 400 or similar) just to see if the problems continue. If they disappear, then you know...
