Re: Melamine Question
I just purchased some Melamine and was wondering if there would be a problem with me coating both sides with maybe a spray adhesive or something simular to keep the fiber glass from rubbing off? Also would someone recommend a product to do this? I recommend just peeling off the fiberglass layers. T...

Personally, I know PSU modding is far out of my league. Fortunately, the PSU is the least challenging aspect of quieting down a typical computer. There are a number of economical PSUs which give great stock results out-of-box. But sometimes it is also the last component standing in the way of a ver...

Upside down? Im pretty sure that there is one hole (if not several) on top of the HD that has a little "DO NOT COVER" label near it... I wouldn't put the HD upside down if I were you. maxxymus, while your cautiousness is appreciated, placing a HDD upside down on foam is just fine. Plenty of folks a...

Based on the SPCR review, the extra money for the CU may not be worth it. See the review. Review: Zalman 7000-Cu / AlCu CPU Heatsink.Keitaro wrote:Perhaps instead of the Zalman 7000 ALCU, get the 7000CU, the pure copper one.

You may not be able to find resources for a sound meter and quiet environment outside of a local sound studio or university (I hope you didn't take my remark about the reviewer not have a sound meter to mean that all fan reviews must be done with a sound meter--they don't, see below). I apologize if this has been posted already.....I did search.
Interesting editorial on computer usage, speed, overclocking and quiet from a writer who has moved from the extreme OCing crowd to preferring a quiet computer. FWIW, here's the link: Cooling - The Sound of Silence

Add a set of bands around the other two sides of the HDD if needed - I couldn't find it but a guy used a wooden cradle with two bands guarding each side of the HDD. As has been said in other places in better ways and by people smarter than I: 2 ground wires in the PSU connector. 40 ground wires in an 80 wire IDE cable. By suspending the drives tonight using some standard elastic - HD temps shot right up to 37 at load (ie; after defrag). Theoretically it will not be as quiet unless you can prevent/minimize/etc resonance in the drive cage itself-regardless of the number of drives you use. And if you happen to have multiple drives of similar speed (ie. 7200rpm) you will need to make sure that they do not cause extra resonance or noise...

The "stability" of the shock cord drive suspension was brought up in this thread Suspending the Raptor (not the first place I've seen such remarks).
