Re: Seasonic SS-300FS 11-and-a-half-year update.
What about a shot of the current state? With all the dust, please. And does that original Panaflo still spin quietly? Yes, the Panaflo is still quiet. :) No dust. Really. Go check it out....I posted some pics of the box this PSU used to live in. http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewto...

Old Antec 3700
I'm posting this to show the home of the Seasonic PSU that I reported died in this thread . Someone asked if there was dust in the old PSU. Nope. I'm a bit of a fan (sorry  ) of filters. And, I think I dusted the case/PSU out with a can of compressed at at the end of 2012--the last time I had ...

Seasonic SS-300FS 11-and-a-half-year update.
Rather than bump a very old ( May 2004 thread ), I'm just starting a new thread. The old Seasonic SS-300FS 300W PSU with the bent grills and the Panaflo L1A mod installed with elastomer mounting pins with the grill cut out and running in an Antec SLK-3700 case with a dedicated, ducted air supply fin...

CLOSED - WTB: Mugen 2 478 mounting clips/bracket
I FOUND WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. Thanks for those who've read this to see if you could help. I am looking for the metal brackets that screw on to the bottom of a Mugen 2 heatsink and allow it to mount on a 478 board. Does anyone have extras from your Mugen 2 you'd be willing to sell or just let me p...

Great to see you are still cranking out systems that are so visually pleasing (as well as quiet). Will you be posting pictures of the new setup? I'm interested to see your adaptations to the setup of the top fans. Plus, your stuff's just fun to look at and inspires the rest of us to try to match it.

Rats! You're right. It'll do:
D-Sub + DVI, or
D-Sub _ HDMI,
but not DVI + HDMI.
(per the product manual)

Re: I'm back after long hiatus - Need Input on New System
By dual DVI, I mean I have two displays that I want to run off of DVI inputs. Neither monitor has a HDMI input. You might run through an HDMI-DVI adapter, that card is clearly a waste of money (IMVHO). About those filters, I can't help: eventually, have a good luck! Hmmm. You mean something like th...

Re: I'm back after long hiatus - Need Input on New System
^^ Hey, MikeC ! Glad to have input from an old friend. :D Thanks for taking time to reply. I've looked at onboard video, but need to run dual displays, and no boards I can find have dual DVI onboard. So, if I'm going to have to add a card, it seems easiest to just go the dual DVI route via the card....

Re: I'm back after long hiatus - Need Input on New System
Thanks for the input so far. Perhaps I should add: As you look at this system a re there other ways to save money that you see? So far, the suggestions have been for pricier components. That's fine, but give me a reason to spend more. As far as system use, I do some video editing/rendering, but I do...

Howdy. It has been a few years since I've been active in these parts and mostly have been reduced to a semi-annual lurker. I'm so glad SPCR has stayed online and grown in influence. I see lots of new names here now as well as a few of the old guard still around. Well, my old P4 system looks like it ...

Hi, Im trying to suspend my hard drives in a Chieftec Dragon, and I want to remove one of the trays which the hard drive cage locks into. The tray is attached to the case using what I believe to be called a hammer and pin joint (?), is there an easy way to remove the metal pins, or will a need a dr...

I agree that you should wipe/overwrite the data on your HDD before you get rid of it. I've been using both DBAN and AutoClave for a few years now. They both work great for me. Another vote for Autoclave based on personal experience. And another vote for not selling any HDD that has not been wiped b...

Re: Anyone tried DynoMat on a pc? (intended to silence cars)
It is not worth it. The kind of noise it is intended to dampen does not happen in a PC unless somthing is horribly wrong! :-) Dynamat is a vibration dampener and it (or similar materials) can make a little difference if you are going for that last step for quieting. It is best to start quieting a P...

Re: NX3000 vs Modded SS-300FS
Which is quieter? The Nexus or a modded Seasonic (with a L1A Panaflo replacement)? I have both and IMO, the Seasonic solution will be quieter (if you get a quiet L1A), but in general it will be warmer, too--properly ventilate if you go this route (ie ducted PSU intake). The sound on an unmodded Nex...

Re: "Silent" indiscrepancies - clarificiation plea
just how quiet\silent is the definition of "silent" being used here? I'm really struggling with this discrepancy from other sites. Have you read Noise in Computing: A Primer ? This should be a good starting point for learning what is meant around here by quiet and silent. SPCR does have a higher (q...

I've tried one Evercool "aluminium" fan and it was noisy as hell. How is your Evercool at minimum voltage compared to the original Zalman fan? Perhaps modding with Adda Hypro or Panaflo fan motor would make sense? Hm.... His previous mod was with a Panaflo 92mm L1A swap which he said was quieter th...

Re: Zalman 7000A AlCu modded w/ CHROME FAN! (picture!)
I picked up a 92mm Evercool aluminum frame with chromed fan modded for use with my Zalman. This time I mounted it with 1.8mm Stretch Magic instead of screws so it is completely decoupled. I drilled two more holes in the metal plate the fan mounts onto, to string the Stretch Magic through. Can we ge...

Nice adaptation! Regarding transporting your computer, it looks like your current setup would still allow you to hard mount the drives in the top or bottom slots of the cage if you needed to move your computer--rather than trying to stuff foam in to keep the drive from moving. If I were you, I would...
