Thanks qviri, that's what I figured.

JazzJackRabbit,

I apologize I used an incorrect term. When I used JBOD I was referring to simply separate drives in no raid arrangement without any spanning.

So I'm OK there.

Thanks for the info, jaganath.

Does anyone know if I can power an eide hard drive from an sata power connector? (adapter/converter)

I do have enough connectors if I can convert/adapt the sata power cables.

Thanks Tephras,

Can I just infinately add those splitters up until the limit of the power supply (ie, doesn't matter how many are on a single lead)?

Also, considering I'm looking at 8 hds, what would be the critical rail limits to consider?

Need 8 4-pin molex connectors

Hi all, need some advice. I'm going to using an old pc as a server. PIII 1G (no extra connectors needed, video, etc) This server will need to hold 8 PATA hard drives and no SATA drives. I'm in need of a power supply that has 8 4-pin molex connectors to power these drives. Unfortunately, most power s...

Well I popped for the CompUSA 160g WD drive. I couldn't help myself. :) Although it didn't go in my silent machine, it is pretty quiet, much more so than I had expected. It is grommetted and really can't be heard when the case is closed. Not as quiet as my favorites (120g Seagates and 160g Samsung),...

Hammer, that's what I'm thinking. It doesn't have to be silent, it just has to be non-obnoxious. I've got a rain check and am considering whether to exercise it.

How bad are Western Digital drives??

Western Digital is running some pretty cheap deals on some pretty large drives (80g and 160g). I know these are nowhere near as quiet as our favorite Samsungs and Seagates, but, how loud are they?

Any experience?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean when you say SMART attributes, but DTemp reads and shows me the temps of the 4 regular IDE drives (Seagates) but does not read, or at least not show me the temps or even the existence of the fifth Promise controller HD (Samsung). I have DTemp start automatically, s...

I'm using the Intel D845PEBT2 but I doubt that's the problem since I don't have any recognition problems. Just to recap: Everything about the controller/HD works just fine (seeing, writing, reading, defrag, etc.). The only problem is that DTemp can't see it. There is no problem with DTemp being able...

Well, I did update the BIOS on the Promise card. Unfortunately, the same problem persists. Unable to even see the Samsung by Dtemp.

After reading the last few posts, is it possible that the Samsung can't be read and that's my problem. Here I thought the problem must be the controller card.

Dtemp and new Samsung HD

Hi all,

I've had 4 Seagates in my HTPC and use Dtemp to monitor their temps. I just added a new Samsung 160g drive via a Promise IDE controller (now 5 drives). Unfortunately, Dtemp doesn't even see the drive (drive info) much less tell me its temp. All else is fine w/ the new drive.

Any thoughts?

HTPC too loud, need advice

Hi all, You have all been very helpful while I've been researching my new HTPC build. Thank you. Well, I've just put it together and I'm getting too much of a whine from the CPU fan (definately the source). Front intake fans really needed?

Hi all, I just received my Coolermaster 201 and am contemplating fan management. It has 4 case fans (rear exhaust, blow-hole exhaust, 2 front intakes, plus PSU). The front intakes are important because they will cool 4 HDs installed in the lower 3.5" bays. Then I was reading about positive/negative ...

Thanks.

12v to 7v adapter - bad or dangerous?

Hi all, I just received my Coolermaster 201 case and am concerned that the three 4-pin fans (blowhole and 2 front) will be too loud and besides, due to my setup, I don't feel I need that much air flow anyway. The fourth (rear exhaust) is 3-pin and will be connected to the fan controller mobo connect...

Quick follow-up. Are the 5.25 or 3.5 bays removable on the 201? Also, what's the possibility of using the the blow hole fan, sucking in, and directed toward the front of the case for cooling the 5.25 bays?
