I'm open to cutting and hacking within reasonable limits, but don't want anything sticking out, so external fans are out of the question, sorry. I want to keep it on my desk, and don't want ugly. Can I buy tin snips locally to "investigate" the case and open things up a bit? Where would i find a pai...

Help me quiet down my new SFF! (pics)

I got a Biostar iDEQ 200N recently. It came with a HSF, and the heatsink is a nice thin-finned jobby with a copper core and aluminum fins. The problem is that since the case and the HSF are so small, it uses two 60mm fans, one blowing into the heatsink and one blowing out the back, taking the air fr...

Could you elaborate? Does the XeonMP have a 256-bit FSB?

I do believe Neil is right - that the figure is the highest the Athlon64 family is projected to dissipate. I suppose AMD want to prevent another embarassing situation like the early Athlon where OEM power supplies and motherboard power circuitry couldn't handle higher-grade chips, while the motherbo...

Yep, Intel's 3Ghz chips put out 101W while the 3200+ does 76.8W.
Basically anything from 2.4Ghz onwards, the Intel will pump out more heat.

Uhh, no. This is disinformation. The AthlonXPs are much better than the P4s wrt heat dissipation.

Re: Is the stock fan thermally controlled?

Hello Mark: Is the stock fan thermally controlled? If so, and it just runs too fast under a light load, you could try moving the thermistor! Or, you could stick a resistor in series on the positive feed to slow it down... Hi Neil. As you can see in the pic i posted, the fan only has the 2-pin conne...

Yes i did try it with the polarity reversed. The fan didn't spin up at all, while the rest of the system spun up and then spun down. Now i'm at wits' end - it doesn't even work with another fan that draws 0.23A!!! How the fuck were they able to make a goddamn fan propreitary? A photo of the co...

Well, the damn thing works fine with the stock fan, except that the stock fan is LOUD. We're talking Beta SL loud. I could use it on my heatsink if i wanted to, its that powerful. And i don't have a midrange fan that draws more current than the L1A. Can the PSU have current-sensing so that it shuts ...

Radeonman, i noticed your CPU - mine's running at 7x210 at 1.4v BIOS (around 1.45v in MBM) - you could try bumping the clock a little.

Just a tip :)

Well, if the fan header was reversed, would the PSU fan still spin up? The older fan was also 2-pin, so rpm-monitoring is out of the picture. I've contributed and looked at many threads about changing out the fan in the PSU both here and Ars, and the time has come to do mine. Its a pretty loud Liteon server 300W (the one from directron) and i want to quiet it down because its the loudest thing in my case. So what should i do? I left the m...
