Re: Gateway EC1803h: Netbook or Ultra-portable?

Gateway EC1803h: Netbook or Ultra-portable? Mike, Thanks very much for this review and the ASUS 1005HA review. They helped me move toward a purchase. I especially valued the detailed noise information. A little feedback. One of my uses for a notebook is to control a dedicated Music PC in another ro...

Re: suggestions for reviews

1. laptop / netbook reviews - Most current laptops or netbooks reviews don't give useful results for the noise level of the computer. I currently use a 5 year old laptop for remote control of music playback; the fan is bothersome. But there are so many laptops. Why not just use this checklist: Does...

suggestions for reviews

In addition to general personal computer use, I'm interested in using computer for high quality music playback. Getting the detailed test results I need to make purchase decisions hasn't been easy. SPCR has been my best source. These reviews would make it better: 1. laptop / netbook reviews - Most c...

maf718, thanks for the very thorough answer. Since I strongly dislike the standard Intel push-pin arrangement, I'd want a bolt-through kit for the Xigmatek. So hte price difference would not be large. I noticed that newegg.com has discontinued the HR-01 PLUS and carried a model specific to Socket 77...

> 1 sound card in one PC

As requested by LodeHacker, I'm explaining to him why I have more than one soundcard in a PC and what my audio setup is. My dedicated music playback PC: Antec Solo case with stock Tri-cool fan on low Seasonic S 12 II 380 W power supply Intel E6300 Core 2 Duo CPU, not overclocked, with stock heatsink...

Thanks, maf718. Good info and very relevant. > Your margin will depend on usage patterns and ambient temperature, The case fan will be fairly close to the heeatsink so it should pull s0ome air through the heatsink, shouldn't it? Task manager shows a steady %1 CPU utilization for playing standard 44....

Want a passive cooling solution

I built a PC dedicated to playing music with the following: Antec Solo case with stock Tri-cool fan on low Seasonic S 12 II 380 W power supply Intel E6300 Core 2 Duo CPU (Retail Box) with stock heatsink/fan (CPU running at std. speed and voltage) I replaced the pushpins with a bolt-through mounting....

Re: On the Bleeding Edge

Are you still having trouble with this board? Can you run accelerated 3D on the graphics core yet? Most of all, does the BIOS allow Vcore (really, any) adjustment? I'm interesting in getting a G965 board (spec. G965), but kind of afraid of the driver immaturity thing, and I really need Vcore adjust...

On the Bleeding Edge

I got an Intel DG965WH motherboard and a 6300 Core 2 Duo chip about 8 days ago and having been putting it together since then. My PC mostly works now but there are still problems: - the internal PATA DVD drive doesn't recognize data or audio CDs at all now. Fortunately, it lasted long enough for me ...

a second round of questions

I appreciate the quick and detailed replies from all of you. I have a few comments to clarify my requirements and a couple of additional questions. I intend to run Windows XP and have at least 1 GB of RAM. I am willing to pay for a premium DVD player. The Plextor Plextools s/w and the 716SA has valu...

want a quiet PC for playing music

I want to buy a PC to store and plat the content of 1600 (and growing) CDs as compressed FLAC files. I expect to wind up with a 1000 GB of disk storage - 500 GB now and another 500 GB when I fill the first disk. This PC will be in my home office and needs to be quiet. It's primary role would be to p...
