Re: Skylake thoughts

Here's a comparison of the power consumption of different Z170 boards. The Z170 Premium has not been tested yet, the Z170 Deluxe seems the closest match. I have the Z170 Deluxe and I wouldn'tcall 5W higher idle and 20W higher load compared to other Asus Z170 ATX boards a problem. For the lowest powe...

I've used only Lian Li cases for ten years, so I'm biased. I had the slightly bigger Q11. The case looks great, build quality is ok. The aluminum is pretty thin and prone to vibration. If you want to use a 3.5" hard drive, I strongly suggest good decoupling with elastic band like a Sharkoon HDD Vibe...

Re: Mild OC in total silence - i5 4690k & 980 Ti

So, to sumarize, i think that the best solution in my case would be to sell the H110& Noctuas, buy the MK 26 and 4 120mm eLoops, to keep under 700 rpm via a Scythe Kaze fan controller. Another 3x120 mm other fans on the intake behind the dust filter and keep a 140 mm Noiseblocker Pk3 on exhaust, wh...

For AIO graphics cards cooling there's "the mod" . It has already been discussed at SPCR . And a mounting bracket review of the NZXT G10 is also available. AIO always have pump noise the MK-26 (or the Raijintek Morpheus ) provide similar cooling without the pump noise. I use Noctua fans and I'm not ...

You can still buy an Antec Earthwatts PSU. The SilverStone Strider Series 300W SFX12V is a semi-passive SFX PSU that comes with a ATX bracket. The fan would not be flush with the case and might not be starved. A TFX PSU like the Sea Sonic SS-350TGM could also work. The mounting holes don't line up w...

I would prefer a 2x16GB kit over a 4x8GB kit, if it's only a little more expensive.

Re: New generation PC, same as the old one?

I'd spend a few bucks more and get a more recently designed and higher efficiency PSU. Straight Power 10 for example. Why? The one I selected has outstanding reviews and the total system power draw will never get beyond 400W anyway. Cable management. To me, that alone is worth the extra cost, thoug...

Do you actually have a Shadow Rock Slim ? There's a new version of this cooler, that came out after the SPCR review with a new fan. The new fan has a 6-pole motor which shows a 50% higher RPM figure than regular PWM fans with a 4-pole motor. This could explain why your fan shows such a high RPM figu...

I guess it's because Skylake runs really hot when you overclock and increase the voltage to 1.4V or so.
I plan to buy a delidded CPU and have Intel's sub-par TIM replaced with liquid metal. This should decrease temps by 15-20 degrees.

Here's a test ( Googlenglish ). The system barely manages to keep a Core i7-5960X and a GTX 970 cool. There's no turbo ,the CPU throtles a bit and all components get quite warm. But the system runs. A socket 1150 CPU would probably a better choice for this cooling setup. It's a very temperature lim...

OK, so a single WD Red would be fine. I understand the 3TB version is quieter than the 4TB, so I'll probably get that, unless you think a 2.5" drive would make a big difference.
