Re: Is Seasonic X Series still solid?

I second the advice for the Corsair RM550x, or alternatively for the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650 (*not* the freshly released "G3", not the smaller "G2 550") Does the G3 550w also have the same aggressive fan profile as the larger models? It's mostly untested. So, given the G2 550 was already more conserv...

They have been superseded by the Platinum series which you might want to consider instead. Thay have been not superseded, the Platinum complemented the X-Series. BTW, both X-series and Platinum-series are now EOL, the new Prime Platinum/Gold recently superseded them (cannot say whether those are qu...

Re: GTX 1050 Ti review compilation thread

What do you think? I don't trust SATA connectors that much, they are the weakest: so I would not use a SATA to PCIe, but a MOLEX (4 pin) to PCIe adaptor. If you don't have one (MOLEX), then a 2 SATA to 1 PCIe "y adapter". Said that, even with the PEG connector aboard, the MSI is still a 60W card, a...

Re: Silent PC for gaming

I don't plan on controlling any fans honestly. My current CPU fan typically hangs around 400 RPM idle and 600 - 800 RPM in games. IMHO you should, or take into account you might end up to: as a matter of fact the Noctua fan is a proven solution, the Cryorig one is not (and if you look at other Cryo...

Re: Does the g3 have the same noise issues than the g2?

Both G2 and G3 PSUs can operate in a fanless ECO mode at lower power demand levels. Actually the G3 850 and 1000 were reviewed with acoustic data, and both turned out significantly noisy and louder than most G2 units, for several reasons. Also the 750W G3 was reviewed at JonnyGuru and albeit not ou...

I'm also kind of thinking about making the inside kind of match. (As much as I love Noctua they're not good looking). Then pick a Thermalright with a TY-147, either a Macho variant, or even a True Spirit 140 Power (if you rather the slim towers look) will be fine and with a somehow better sound sig...

Ok ok, It's fine. The Gigabyte 6Gb is 100€ cheaper than the MSI 6Gb, that's why i pick this model (0db at idle). Selling my old PSU will be easy, I have the box and everything, the cooler will be hard, I will try. Dear french friend, I feel you got me (and maybe Steve) a bit wrong. Just to be overz...

What do you guys think? It's more or less what you have advised me earlier. Not exactly: the cooler is not what we adviced, while the PSU, albeit really good, is overkill. Personally I'd spare on the PSU (picking a Be Quiet ! Straight Power 10 400W, for instance) and invest something more on the CP...

All this is normal? No: RMA or return it. Where did you purchase it? Or the power supply fan should go off? Yes, with the ECO mode engaged your PSU should run fanless. Besides, you should NOT switch the ECO mode while the PSU is running, that might fool the PSU fan controller. In addition, there ar...

But I would have thought that the 800W PSU is (at the same load in Watts, not in percent) is at least not louder than the 500W or 600W version...? It's a rather common error: actually more than once it's true quite the opposite. Just for instance, the RM550x is quieter than the RM650x almost always...

I wish Tom's would show the fan profiles outside of the Hotbox enviroment... Currently it's not possible, the noise measure is an automated process during the cross load tests, no way the current stroboscope can work on thousands measures. By fan profile, I mean the 10-15 datapoint graph of fan rpm...

Re: Quiet build for PS/LR, data organization, little gaming

Yes, the one is a test for the 800W power supply but even then, the RM550x seems to be much quieter at any load. There are several, clear differences between an about ~800W PSU and a ~500W one, even within the same lineup. Starting from the fan: the BQ 800W sports this fan, Silent Wings BQSIW3-1352...
