I just built this sort of box as a 24/7 music server. I used an Intel D201GLY2 mini-ITX board, with a 90W pico PSU. It has 1GB DDR2 plus runs with a 750GB Samsung in a GrowUp Japan box. I looked for a small case that was big enough to mount a 120mm fan (Scythe 800rpm) and found a s/h Antec 1380 on E...

Ebay

Okay so apparently, this is what I should be looking for: http://www.quietpcusa.com/images/rc56.jpg 1) It seems to be out of stock in a lot of places (not this specific item, but the general doodad). 2) Heck, I can solder in a resistor myself, and that's basically all it is. But I can't tell from a...

I had 2x Mtron SSDs BUT the data SSD failed and I went back to a Raptor for data. Windows Xp seems to take a while to start loading with an SSD C Drive but then goes very fast post initial screen display. Even with an Mtron firmware update the first stage is not instant. I used to check the Windows ...

Try LinITX in the UK : http://linitx.com/viewcategory.php?catid=151&pp=149,151. OR KustomPCs also in the UK : http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Passive_Power_Supplies.html I got my PicoPSU + 60w brick from LinITX. Excellent service. They have a 120W version. All versions can come with a non-UK plug.

Just to add my 3 penn'orth, I had a pig of a time getting all my stuff to fit in one of these, but I also ended up getting a Silverstone and a 16GB SSD to work (as well as another 2.5in drive mounted vertically against the front). BUT it did give me the idea to use another of these to mount a mini-I...

IOMETER

Here's a suggestion for using IOMeter from the Infrant/Netgear ReadyNAS forum pages. I've used this many times to test connection speeds. For IOMeter, following these instructions. Note that IOMeter will run only in Windows environments. 1. Download IOMeter from www.iometer.org. 2. Download iometer....

You are correct about cases but not about adaptors. There are at least 4 answers to your problem : 1. Get a set of hardware sold at most computer shops that extend the space occupied by 2.5in drives to 3.5in. Usually consists of 2 backets. If the drive is a PATA drive then you can also buy a convert...

3x Samsung SyncMaster 940BW.

I use them at Brightness setting 31%, but even at 100% there is no difference (but no long term data at 100%)

No noise from the front. Very slight high frequency buzz with the ear 10cm from the back.

For all intents and purposes - very very quiet.

IDE DVD drives vs SATA

I have the "same" model Samsung DVD drive in two PCs - one the PATA version the other the SATA version. The PATA version sounds like it is auditioning for the StarTrek door sound effect at each boot-up. The SATA version is quiet ! Curiously, the PATA version makes one set of noise in Windows and thr...

Re: Zalman MFC1 Plus controller w/ four Scythe Slip Stream f

Does anyone know how well the MFC1 can control the Slip Streams? I was thinking about getting a P182, replacing all the Tri-Cools with SL12M, and adding an SL12M to the front intake. A couple reviews on Newegg suggest that the MFC1 may drop the maximum RPM a bit, so that's why I'd rather go with th...

What would worry me putting this in an NSK 3480 is you'd lose all airflow over the HDD. Agree, but put the HDD in the bottom OR vertically against the front suspended. See posts by porkchop for an OK solution (3.5in drive). http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=47645&highlight= I hav...

Yes. I use the ST30NF in an Antec 3480 case instead of the stock PSU. It hardly gets warm even though it is on most of the day. Perfect PSU for this case as the heat can escape upwards through the grill. It's a bit longer than a normal ATX PSU, which is almost a problem for this case. See original t...

The System drive is still fine (and now has the Firefox write activity also), but is starting to look decidedly ragged when graphed on an HDTune/HDTach benchmark. So some degradation is happening all the time. How do you mean ragged? I've used my Mtron as a system drive (WinXP SP2) since I bought i...

I always thought that using a SSD with XP SP3 was tantamount to computational suicide due XP lacking proper support SSD's. I don't know if its is true, but I read somewhere that Vista (with indexing optimised) is able to reduce the amount of writes it does compared XP. After looking at the external...
