Re: Scythe Mugen 2 Rev B bottom screw loose??? [large pictur

Yeah it's the up and down I am concerned about. Even went to lowe's to hack something in place but not successful with nylon washers and such as it needs to be a specific height. Going to return it. Didn't have this much problem with Prolimatech mega. Spoke to teck support at scythe but no resolution.

Scythe Mugen 2 Rev B bottom screw loose??? [large picture]

Anyone have any issues with the bottom screw being loose? This is the long screw that connects the plate to the bottom of the motherboard. Even with the screw cup on it wiggles quite a bit. Is this normal? See picture here (I am pushing at the screw on the bottom of the motherboard to make it stick ...

Re: New SB gaming build

The 6950 will take the shaman 140 gpu cooler and a firmware upgrades you to 6970 which should drive 30" 2560x1600 with relative ease and continue to provide quiet operation. Gaming @ 2560x1600 really has changed the user experience. Other things that do that are ssd, a good quality mouse (cyborg rat...

Re: New SB gaming build

I'd save $75 and get the 2500K instead of the 2600K. Just don't think 100MHz speed bump is worth it - esp as you are going to obliterate stock speed with OC. Apply the savings toward... ...an SSD. Your bottleneck for gaming will be the HDD. If you have $'s to burn, aim for the Crucial C300 128GB or...

Thanks. Now, I'm just hoping the prolimatech clears the gskill ram with the heat spreader. It's going to cut it close as it's exactly 40mm to the tips of the heat spreader. What sucks is I'm going out of town so won't be able to play with the new toys when it comes home.

Re: Recommend a fan to go with Prolimatech Mega for sandy br

Thanks for the feedback. I went with SY1225SL12LM-P after realizing I could still control the pwm fan via mb. These things aren't cheap. Paid about $85 shipped for two of these pwm fans (~$10 x2), one scythe mugen 2 rev b (~$40), and another scythe slipstream 120mm 800rpm (~$10) + shipping $15!

Re: Sandy Bridge system for general home use, critiques want

So I have grown uneasy about going stock. Then I read this article on stock cooling http://www.silentpcreview.com/intel-i7-hsf . While they don't use the same stock cooler that snb has, the fact that my htpc is using a fairly closed (not well ventilated) and foam padded antec p183, there isn't a lot...

Re: Sandy Bridge system for general home use, critiques want

You cannot overclock the cpu ratio multiplier on h67 and without overclocking you will rarely hit thermal envelopes that would require the fan to crank up. Most of the reviews of the newer stock cpu coolers indicate that it should be more that enough. Without the fan cranking up, it should be fairly...

I contacted thermalright and their tech support says the shaman should work on 6950. The hurt ofcourse being the price $75 x 2 for the crossfire. I agree, all of the reviews show the same power draw at idle no matter which one you buy. I ended up going with the i5-2400 that was on sale from newegg yesterday. It should be here tomorrow so I hope to be able to at least do some basic power measurements if not get the whole thing up and running....

Partly because of this article, I've decided to build my next sandy bridge gaming rig using the antec 900 which I currently own but makes a ton of noise probably from the stock radeon 5850. Re: Advice on new Sandy Bridge low power server

The above is the reason why I went with the i5-2500k for my htpc+nas. The idle power draw would be the same where the system would spend the majority of the time. Microcenter was running a great deal on the 2500k ($179) which is even cheaper than the low power i5's. It is a waste of the K (unlocked)...

Re: Sandy Bridge Gaming Rig - Please comment

well the 5850 is supposedly more powerful than the 6850 (which is an out of band product, not the next revision up). The next version up is 6950. The 5850 I have now is also noisy but the fix is a $60-80 gpu cooler such as the the two Mike recently reviewed. Too bad they ?can't be used with 6950

Re: Sandy Bridge Gaming Rig - Please comment

I think that two 6950 in cf will be extremly noisy, esspicially on load condition, so maybe you can consider two asus directCU 6850 in crossfire which will give you a lot of graphic power (unless you are doing an Eyefinity setup or something similar). Another recommendation is to get a case like Si...

Behold the beast. It's a shame you didn't use the provided VRM sinks, I find them to be more effective than the stock plate one usually finds on these cards (I have direct experience with a non-reference Sapphire 5850 and a TwinTurbo Pro, the stock plate looks beefier but was outperformed...

I have a 150w pico and it isn't enough to reliably power 3x2.5 inch drives plus a 1tb Samsung Eco green on a i650 system. Interestingly the load at boot is only 60w but the pico will cause the system to reboot. This is with a 120w power brick. The replacement corsair cx400 has no problems and the d...
