Re: What I have Learned about Computer Performance from SPCR

Look back 5-7 years ago and look at the articles on this site. look at the price and performance of those VIA systems. We are entering a time when we can have our cake and eat it too. You could make high performance no moving part system for $800 with quality parts case $100 fanless power supply $12...

But the cost would be built into the cost of the motherboard. With pico PSU you can reuse it.

It needs a separate video card and is unable to make use of the integrated graphics silicon in the SB. It just can't compete with the power efficiency of the H67 chipset used by the DH67BL nor was it ever intended to do so. Where can I find energy comparisons of H67 and P67? The only P67 reviews I ...

Re: What I have Learned about Computer Performance from SPCR

When might we see the new methodology and a new round up? Also can we expect a 14omm fan round up any time soon?. January 2011 is that last date that I heard. I don't care if it is behind schedule though. I think it is more important that they get it right than rush it.... and it is a squirrely bal...

Re: Advice on new Sandy Bridge low power server

I considered waiting for the dual cores but I don't know that the power savings will be worth the loss of two cores (5 watts maybe???) The 2400 idles at about 4 watts: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i5-2400s_6.html#sect0 There isn't a lot of watts left to save with the 2 core chi...

Re: What I have Learned about Computer Performance from SPCR

I am really looking forward to the new forthcoming SPCR fan review methodology that they have been tinkering with for a while. I am hoping it is going to improve on what, in my personal opinion, are already the most thoughtful, penetrating and useful fan reviews on the internet. When might we see t...

Re: AMD Fusion E350 Mini-ITX motherboards

In about a month when the 4 core i5-2400 is supplemented by 2 core Sandy Bridge CPUs, the cost/performance disparity will become even greater. They will cost even less, burn even less electricity and still handily outperform the Atom or the Fusion... and not by a little . I could not agree more. In...

What is the case over a product liek this over a 35 watt sandy bridge/ivy bridge i3. You get similar video and much better processing with only slightly more power consumption and money.

When I was in college radio about 10 years ago there were basically no builders of quiet computers. Being able to buy a system like this would have actually cost us le...

I MUCH rather have 2 way speakers than a sub woofer.
my setup is 2 bose 301 book shelf speakers and a T amp. Amazing bang for the buck. I run it from a good quality 12 volt power supply, but in retrospect I should have wired a harness from one of the computer's power ports.

3. Right now the only only chip that makes sense in my opinion is a Sandy Bridge 2400 or 2500K, depending on how important the video is and whether you want to pay an extra $50 for 2x powerful video. They automatically undervolt and underclock themselves. They both idle at under 4 watts, about as c...

the seasonic x400 is 70% at 22 watts
nexus value 430 is 62%
seasonix x650 is 65%
nexus nx5000 is 60%

that number is FINE

70 percent at 25 watts is 7.5 wasted watts
86 at 300 watts is 42 wasted watts.

this thing costs $60 bucks and it has around the same base line overhead as the x400.

seems like if they upgraded the fan and had it controlled by temp not load as well as upgrading some other components they could have a killer lower cost power supply for us for $80.
