Re: Does anyone use alternative to AMD Catalyst Software Sui

The method from your link is totally legit. You'll end up with a driver only installation, regardless of AMD wants you to have installed.

Besides, as long as you do not run into any problems using an older driver does no harm.

I ran into that problem As well. I found my solution by connecting a used 2.1 speaker system (Cambridge soundworks by creative) to the headphones output of my TV and hooked up a used C2D laptop to hdmi. As for speakers you could look at Teufel, German company selling decent systems for the money. Th...

Re: Advice needed on ITX NAS case

The problem with a small Nas case is drive noise. The smaller they come, the more likely you will have a hard time with vibration and stuff.

Depending on the HDDs used, this could pose a problem. A bigger case might give you room to suspend those drives.

The TS 140 is sold as a server system. So chances are that you could run into problems changing the fan because if weird BIOS restrictions. But try the things posted above

I have made a good experience with the BQ support, they send me a replacement unit in advance to replace a unit with a lowly sounding fan. TBH, that's been a few years ago, don't exactly remember which model i had back then.

You could go with a big case and remove the whole cabinet under your desk and use the PC case instead. With a little modding you should be able to make this even look good.

Re: Need help choosing mATX case for powerful build

Any bottom fan mount is to be preferred over any front intake, just because it is not restricted by the front fascia. Back in the days of SS-350 we used to cut a bottom hole to get noise free air for intake. This ruined your case, but achieved near silence. And dust filters, if you have read the lat...

50mm is not a problem. But this is spcr and since you ask here I assume you want a silent PC. And stock cooler might not be overly loud and could be tolerable when idle but it won't be as quiet as a good 3rd party cooler. So what does make noise in your planned setup? - PSU -CPU cooler -case fan(s) ...

Re: Small gaming PC case

No, stock cooler is not OK. Which CPU will you be using? Going with the raven will leave you with 83 mm max cooler height and you have to pick a cooler not impeding the pci-e slot. This depends on the layout if the main board chosen. And be aware, SFX PSU only or some kind of pico PSU like solution.

Welcome to SPCR, just a few random thoughts: - a "t" cpu is a cut off standard cpu, if you use the HR-22 and a slow spinning (= inaudible) fan you can use almost any standard cpu -case: Take a look at the Fractal Node 304 http://www.silentpcreview.com/Fractal_Design_Node_304 - which features for vir...

AIO coolers are mainstream. As you can see from recent forays into the Silent Gaming PC Building Guides, we're wading into that arena. We will be trying to bring the quiet approach to WC. It may ultimately fail for those seeking PC noise lower than ambient, but our input will surely be welcome by g...

Mini-ITX and MicroATX add some wrinkles, but are nowhere close to being show-stoppers, even with multiple separate radiators. Yes, you are right. But i guess not with two AIO/CLC off the shelf. As a first-timer, it would probably be $250, by the time I dealt with unforeseen installation issues. Tha...

The absence of a heat spreader means that heat can be conducted away with more efficiency. If CPUs were still made w/o heat spreaders, ANY cooler would profit, not only AIO and silent but mediocre air CPU cooler would profit too. Using a CPU designed AIO on a VGA simply won't fit. Main advantage of ...

Re: Semi-passive rig

The fan on the PSU doesn't start (at 220W power consumption) so the heat from the PSU goes naturally up towards the GPU. If you block the inner openings of the PSU, all generated heat should leave through the front mesh/fan opening and wouldn't influence case temps. Of course, blocking those openin...

I bet this whole efficiency thing will change as soon as people in the US are forced to pay as much for electricity as we in Europe are paying now.

Looking at fuel pricing and the impact it had on car sales in the US, I can sense a similar development.

The difference between it and the L8 300W that would matter to your system is that it is ever so slightly quieter. But that difference, as measured by computerbase.de, is only 0.6 dB(A). So I don't think that blanking vacant fan positions with cardboard would improve the noise levels much or improve airflow. Why use intake fans at all? Aside from a positive pressure setup? If you use 1 outtake fan, seal all openings except those in the front, you should have a sufficient airflow in...
