Well, I removed the thermistor and soldered the thermistor's wires together and let the 92 mm fan run at full speed. To my dismay, the fan isn't as quiet as I expected at 12v. So I ran the wire back through the PSU and it is now running at 5V. So far I'm happy with the three 80 mm Papst 8412 NGL fan...

I just replaced the chattery 92mm fan in my Enermax with a Papst 3412NGL. The second 80mm fan is still removed. It is extremely quiet, but now I can barely feel any airflow coming out of the vents. After a while the PSU chassis starts to heat up now. I believe there is a thermistor inside, slowing t...

I am now running the PSU with the single 92mm fan! I started with the 80mm fan merely disabled to see if anything would explode. I was happy and decided to just remove it completely. I can feel warm air exiting the front and rear, no warmer than before (or at least nothing I could notice.) Still hav...

More powerful PSU = runs cooler?

I've sometimes heard a higher wattage PSU will run cooler for the same components than a less powerful PSU, as it has more breathing room. This belief is one of the reasons why I got the 465 rather than the 365 model for my Enermax PSU a few months ago. It was overkill for my setup, even the "less p...

Re: Go for just the 92mm

By the way, how did you cover the hole where the PSU normally sits? And what fan are you using on the AX-7? And what kind of CPU are you trying to cool? The hole where the PSU used to be is covered with a plate of aluminum, riveted to the case. I covered other vents the same way. It looks very clea...

My EXTERNAL Enermax PSU modding

http://members.cox.net/clemente39/images/cpu/pc50.jpg I have mounted my Enermax EG465P-VE(FCA) PSU outside the case. Part of the reason was to make room for the window in this small LIAN LI PC-50 case. Now the PSU acts as my blowhole (originally the case included an 80mm blowhole in that location.)...

Sounds fine to me! Cut'em shorter as far as you want, the heatshrink covering on each wire should be cool...

I just left mine tied up and tucked away out of sight (they are long enough...)

I had a similar problem with my new Enermax. It was a high frequency sound, very light and barely audible, but it was still enough to bother me.
Turned out to be the neon light. I switched to cold cathode and have no problem.

I made a window for my case and added a neon light (automotive type, 12VDC). My PSU didn't like it too much...

Speaking of different Enermax mods, I mounted mine outside the case!

I'm still not sure what to do with the fans... The 90mm fan now pulls air out from the top of the case and into the PSU. Nothing gets recycled out of the vent holes back into the case anymore. I could close off the 90mm fa...

I picked up an ultra-cheap 16X DVD-ROM drive at Fry's Electronics for $40 US. It is in a box by "BTC" - the label on the drive says "Manufactured by TOP-G".

To my surprise, it is the best DVD-ROM drive I ever bought! It slows down to 1X while playing DVD movies so you won't hear it.
<b...

I've found a high speed fan would add some vibration to the motherboard tray... I'd imagine it would be worse with less standoffs to distribute the vibration along.

I'd suggest using all the standoffs... Nothing worse than plugging something in somewhere and hearing something crack from bei...
