Airflow isn’t great in this 1999 case. No case exhaust fan, only a Zalman PSU (80mm) doing the exhausting, plus an 80mm intake fan. I’ll more than likely mod the inlet to a 120mm, making it positive pressure. I could swap to a 120mm PSU, but I’m not convinced, judging by SPCR’s test data, th...

Anyone familiar with this Compaq Slot-1 cooler?

Compaq Proliant

It appears much taller than a standard slot-1 heatsink, which usually takes a 50mm fan, so I’m wondering if this larger heatsink isn't capable of mounting an 80mm fan?

Nice setup. I've not time enough to read this all now, but I'll be back to read up more, but one interesting point: you've got the airflow in the mobo side, running opposite from what YY intended (IIRC). http://gallery.volvo240.org/images/1/misc_pictures/dator/filserver/img_0285.jpg YY intended the ...

Well, it is a direct-touch heatpipe design! My 3 year old Akasa Evo33 is the same design, so nothing new about 'direct-touch'. ...does say it is subjectively hard to hear, but they don't say what the ambient noise conditions were. Yep, no different from most h/s reviews, with no real acousti...

800 v 1000 isn't really comparable rpm, so no surprise the Nexus wins with that comparison. The Slipstream is definitely quieter, but I plan to re-compare when I get in a 12-to-9v adapter for the Nexus. I'm thinking at similar RPM they'll be closer in comparison in both airflow and noise. Yep, I thi...

the psu is in the front so it will make more noise. The TJ06? It has the PSU at the back, but on top of the hdd’s (if that’s what you meant) so more heat going through the PSU, so yes, potential to ramp up the PSU fan speed. in the p180\182 the psu is in a different bay so the hdd can be at the...

Silverstone TJ06. There’s a few others, the Akasa Eclipse, if your CPU cooler is small enough, and some of the old very tall tower server cases, and at least one ThermalTake case, iirc.

I don’t think it would make that much of a difference, to be honest.

About the orientation, on page 3 someone eluded that it could go in any direction... I should be getting one in a week or two with a new build. Can I use that kit with my A8V Deluxe (K8 939), to get the HDT-S1283 facing rearwards, towards the exhaust case fan, rather than the PSU? http://img371.ima...
