Yes, very good point Mats. Just how noisey will the 7200.8 be? Will it be like Samsung, with some samples being quiet and others being a lot louder. I'd also agree with a lot of what Tobias said. But for me, its not really the amount of noise, but the type. I like to minimise all noise, but its the ...

But that is one good thing about WD. Unless they have changed things you can RMA a drive for any reason and get a different drive back. Thats a really good RMA policy that allows you to return a really noisey one. Problem is of course, most WDs are noisey, you have to be really lucky to get a good o...

I enjoyed the "daja vu" experience too, thought it was just me having too much to drink at first :) I'm surprised that this case has turned out to be reasonably noisey. I was expecting noise leels to be low. Perhaps there are just a few culprits in your system that you need to sort out. A NB cooler ...

Yeah, I thought that someone may say that. Its nearly all down to luck, which is just not fair. Sometimes you but a drive and its a really good one, other times its not. I'm thinking of getting a DiamondMax Plus10 300GB - madness?

I've had enough of waiting for the new Seagate 7200.8. I've also been unable to find Nidec 160Gb Samsungs in the UK. So I was thinking of getting something different. The Maxtor is Storage Reviews current favourite. They reckon its both quick and quiet. Now we know that their standards are not the s...

I'm with [Denorios all the way on this one. RAID does not offer any perceptable increases in desktop performance uses. In somes cases a RAID 0 system is even slower than a single drive. I've read quite a few reviews about RAID as I always intended to use a RAID 0 array in this machine. Even with goo...

Yeah, you can use any form of fan control that you wish. The hard part is managing to connect to it. Iirc the fan connector on your card is not instantly compatible with your mobo headers. Sometimes some ppl are lucky with teir connector and it can be "encouraged" to fit. Other times it needs a sold...

I do not think that...

The short answer is that it would probably break :( You could try it while constantly monitoring your GPU temps. I cannot imagine that you would be able to disconnect the fan, and run a modern game without causing problems. The best solution is likely to be a different HSF, or even a different graph...

Oh bugger, this stuff can get too complex for my little brain. I thought that there were only 3 chipsets 6800, 6800GT, 6800U. I think I may be getting the impression that the 6800 is the same as 6800NU, but I'm not sure. If that is the case then I'm a happy bunny again as I understand that range on ...

It looks like we may have no other option. Mind you, the poll about the whine from Samsung drives is not totally damming against the JVC motors. I just know that I will be one of the unlucky people to end up with a loud one. I'm kind of tempted to just go out and but a fast large HDD and rely on a S...

I would not worry about BTX. It is a standard that does not add much, and therefore no many people are jumping ship. ATX is going to be around for many more years to come imo. OMG !!! Romulus2.com is a very cool resource. I have been looking for something like that for a while. Thanks for the link.

I've used Overclockers before, and when things go wrong they can be slow to respond. Overall I would say they were OK, not good, not poor, just OK.
