To get it to work, I covered the area around the GPU with electrical tape... is that a bad idea? I made sure the GPU still contacts the heatsink.

Power consumption of next gen video cards

I heard that the new ones require 80-100 watts. It doesn't seem like a 300W PSU will be enough, will it?

Try puting the stock HSF on. Don't worry about the fan, just try to see if it boots up. My AIW9600P had non-booting issues with the VGA Silencer rev3 also. Swapped back to the stock HSF and no problems. Check to see if the huge heatsink is shorting anything on the board. I tried it. It didn't work....

*EDIT* Nevermind. Need spare stock ATI Radeon cooler

I have an ATI Radeon 9600XT 128 MB and I switched HSFs to an Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer Rev 3 a couple weeks ago. It was working fine but yesterday I couldn't turn the computer on. The computer would turn on but the monitor wouldn't respond and the computer made an odd beeping noise. I eventually n...

Seasonic Super Silencer questions

I'm in the market for a new power supply but I have some questions first... How loud is it? Would its noise output benefit from a Panaflo L1A mod? Since it is supposed to be very efficient, it seems safe to do a 7v or 5v mod with, especially with a duct, right? How does the automatic fan control wor...

This topic has come up in the forums quite often, and I believe the general feeling is that it's ok to use the 5V mod. The only fan I have in my *entire* system is in the PSU - it's a Panaflo 80L @5V. I ran Prime95 for a week in summer about 18 months ago, and it's still going strong. It does seem ...

Noiseblock questions

Are they just any random obstacle for noise? So the soundwaves can't exit in a straight line, but there's still a clear path (albeit more mazelike) for air to flow? Can it be anything? ie, well placed pieces of cardboard? Do they work significantly affect sound? (ie, in a side CPU duct, will it get ...

How important is a case for silencing?

I'm asking because I have an old generic steel case I'm using and I'm wondering if it's harder to make my caes (as opposed to a better one) silent. I always had the idea that components were more important. I'm not sure what would really vibrate. I plan on having some sort of hard drive suspension a...

That sounds like a good idea. Have you had experience using it? How did you attach the vent to the side of the case? Did you have to get a separate clamp?

vercase?

Do you think it would be a good idea to build the duct anyway? Perhaps with a funnel (that opens up) at the end to allow for variations in CPU location? How much louder is it likely to be?

Side CPU duct location question

Do all mobos have their CPUs in the exact same location? If they don't, how do you side CPU duct creators deal with switching mobos (if you have to). I would build myself a CPU duct but that question is the reason I haven't yet.

Elastically suspending hard drives covers up lone intake fan

The way my case is set up, I'd have to elastically suspend my hard drives from the bottom of the drive bay cage (I have 2 hard drives but only 1 free 5.25" bay). I only have one intake fan and if I suspend the hard drives, the one intake fan is covered and (I imagine) airflow would be greatly reduce...

Is it okay if the vid card board gets hot? (noob asking)

I just installed an Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer Rev. 3. I'm not sure if the actual vid card is supposed to get hot or not (warm but nothing my finger can't handle). I tried playing a game and it ran fine. Am I okay?

Panaflo L1A or Acoustifan 80mm?

Which is quieter at a given CFM? (or which has a better CFM at a given dB) I have Panaflos with a fan controller (I can just manually speed them up when I want to play a game or whatever) so I'm wondering if it's worth it for me to cough up another $17 for the Acoustifan. If you leave the holes at the bottom of the PSU open to allow the PSU to exhaust some heat, will that defeat the whole purpose of using a duct altogether?

I'm a little worried about overall case temps.
