Re: Taking firewire and other ports in front?

WOW, nice! Pity is that I am missing the tools and the skills :) Thanks. That's actually the first thing I've ever "modded". All it took was a drill a jigsaw and a screwdriver. It's very roughly cut. I'ts the cover that I designed that covers it all up. I guess the only real "skill" you need to do ...

simplest way to quiet second harddrive ;)

I know, this is almost cheating but it's so simple and some people just don't think about it while trying to get a quieter computer. I disconnected my 40GB Samsung drive which I've always known was my main cause of noise and my computer is very quiet in the day (while there's other noises in the hou...

Re: Fanless 6600GT AGP is now a reality - Gigabyte GV-N66T12

I wonder if it comes with a DVI to VGA adapter?
It's the only way I can connect this card in a dual monitor setup.

Re: Taking firewire and other ports in front?

My Asus P4C800E Deluxe came with 4 extra USB2.0 and 1 extra Firewire port that connect to headers on the motherboard but they where made to fit in a slot on the back of a case. I just modified them to fit into the right side of my case then cut some holes and designed a "cover" for them in Adobe Ill...

If it's AGP they might have a customer in me (if I can find one in Canada).

Re: bottom case fan blowing up onto AGP?

and while it seems counter-productive to buy something without a fan so that you have to add one later, a 120mm Globe or Nexus is waaaaay quieter than those little 40-60mm screamers they usually have on VGA cards. Yup, it's kinda just like insurance becasue I don't have a front fan on my case and v...

bottom case fan blowing up onto AGP?

If I was to get a passively cooled 6800 or 6600GT AGP http://tw.giga-byte.com/VGA/Products/Products_GV-N66T128VP.htm# would it make sense to cut a hole in the bottom of my case and add a 120mm fan blowing up at it? I don't have any PCI devices to get in the way. I know that these cards have huge hea...

Re: AGP 6600GT Passive

Seek and you shall find! 6800 AGP: http://www.acctech.ca/shop/item.asp?itemid=159&catid=109 6600 AGP: http://www.acctech.ca/shop/item.asp?itemid=158&catid=109 Hmm, that 6800 looks good. The 6800 actually needs less power than the 6600 (for some reason) and would probably even better suited to passi...

Re: AGP 6600GT Passive

Now, if they could only make an AGP version of it. It would save me the trouble of buying one and trying to fit an aftermarket cooler on it that fits weirdly because the GPU is in a weird place. Isn't this what you're (and i'm) looking for? http://tw.giga-byte.com/VGA/Products/Products_GV-N66T128VP...

Akasa Paxmate? Pretty useless. Antec TriCool fan? No experience regarding noise. But surely there's quieter? Cut out the grill. Use isolators. Suspend the hard drive. Then perhaps they can justify using two "really" in the title (after replacing "silent" with "quiet" of course). I knew you guys wou...

Maximum PC builds a quiet machine

Maximumpc.com just put an article from their latest issue on their website.

It's good to see more people talking about silent computers.

Nice! Thanks for the link. The small size of the heatsink confirms my belief that the standard 6600GT's (with heatsinks almost as large on the front) are very accepting of slow-spinning fan mods. Now, if they could only make an AGP version of it. It would save me the trouble of buying one and tryin...

go to see it works

So, is it much quieter than stock? The only reason I haven't gotten one is that it's been quite hard to get an aftermarket heatsink that's ceratin to fit a 6600GT AGP because of the odd mounting holes and extra heatsink. I wouldn't mind getting the MSI 6600GT AGP and putting that cooler on it. I don...

Thermaltake Schooner Fanless VGA Cooler and 6600GT AGP?

I'm assuming this thing will never fit a 6600GT AGP?

I like the concept of the heatsink outside the case.

At first I had my doubts that the heatsink would fit under my CPU cooler http://www.zalmanusa.com/usa/product/view.asp?idx=79&code=005009 so I opend up my case and saw that it would probably not be a problem because the AGP and CPU are quite far apart on an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe but I DID notice that...

I just received my 6600GT. I plan to see how quiet this card is ( supposedly <28dBA, according to MSi); if the stock cooler proves audible from within my case, I have an Aerocool VM-101 that, hopefully, will fit on it. It's the main thing that's delaying my final testing and write-up of the article...

hey, that's great

not sure if they make dual dvi but mine is 1 of each http://www.msi.com.tw/program/newsrelease/news_page.php?UID=360 The same store recently added that exact same MSI card to their inventory. I'm very tempted to buy it considering they claim it's quieter than most 6600 GTs. Here it is: http://www.g...

O.K. I know it's kinda dumb to reply to my own post but I don't want to add another seperate post. I've been looking and there just isn't any aftermarket coolers for the AGP GF 6600 GT. QUESTION: Is it possible to disconnect the fan on that Chaintech 6600 GT AGP and just put a large slow turning fan...

Found a GF 6600 GT AGP online but is it too loud?

According to this review http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2295&p=19 The Chaintech is one of the quietest GF 6600 GT AGP cards around. It just showed up on a local store's website: http://www.greenlyph.com/product_info.php?products_id=783 I have a quiet Zalman cooler on my P4 and a quiet...
