I use a ZM80D on my 6600GT, but I have a 120mm blowing on it. Honestly it should be fine with no fan. My temps are 39C Idle and 49C after hours of gaming in a warm room. Don't see why you couldn't run passive since these cards handle high 60's with ease and much more than that sometimes. Have seen p...

You should get along just fine by running an RPM sensing wire to the fan header and just running the fan's power directly from the PSU. If I read what you wrote correctly, you just shorted out the fan header. Assuming the RPM sensing pin still works correctly, it's all you need to let your Mobo know...

If you don't need a 24-pin ATX plug (nforce4 chipset) then Coolmax makes some cheap PSU's that are pretty quiet. The one reviewed here didn't seem to be as quiet as the 400 watt one I owned. It was better than my Fortron from a noise point of view. They have selectable switches on the back for fan s...

The Evercool 120mm ball bearing fan is actually making more noise than I thought at first, noise which I may have wrongly attributed to the power supply. It sounded ok at first but is starting to bug me now, and I think I need to look for a new fan (sleeve bearing this time). I've owned 3 90/92mm E...

If you're interested at all, I will soon have my 6600GT up for sale. It's a PNY with a Zalman ZM80D-HP heatpipe attached. I would be willing to do sub-$200 for it :) It's dual-dvi, HDTV, S-Video out. PCI-E, but I figured that's what you were looking for with your system components you mentioned. I h...

Case: Silverstone LC13 - awesome case for HTPC's Power supply: Seasonic S12-330 - good choice and plenty of power CPU: AMD Athlon 64 754 3000+ - Go 939. Lots cooler. Even a Winchester will suffice here. Venice is newer though and has a few good improvements over the Winchester. Motherboard: AOpen AK...

The stupid placement of the chipset on most nF4 boards almost made me go Intel.. Surely you are exaggerating . The only ones which truly aren't fit to the job are the Gigabyte, MSI and Foxconn. The rest are clear or with the chipset on the right side of the slot. How will that interfere? Most NF4 b...

Nice but doesn't do the job very well, the seek and write noises are way too loud, I'm beginning to dislike the drive cage more and more, so the appointment with Mr. Dremel will be very soon. The biggest problem I ran into with the drive sleds is the grommets. Even if you pad the drive, the screw r...

You can take a look at my rig in my signature. I have Yate Loon medium speed fans running at 900 RPM for intake and exhaust as well as one on my XP-120. My temps are typically around 34-35C Idle on the CPU and around 35C for the case. I think this is plenty of cooling. My 3200+ runs at 2.3ghz which ...

Something to think about on your PSU choice... ATX12v 2.0 In my opinion is a bugged standard. If you've read about people's experiences with this standard on SLI rigs you'll know what I'm talking about. While the idea is good, the practical use and application of it is severely crippled. You have 2 ...

Any idea whether the ZM80D-HP will preclude you from an SLI setup in the future? I'm running the same board, and while I by no means need two GPUs right now, I was thinking it might give me a nice lower cost graphics upgrade in the future From what I can tell, you can add a second card in right now...

Nice! How did you attach the fan to the zalman btw? Does it come with mounting equipment or did you knock something up? I should probably have included this in the original post. I went to my local hardware store and bought some 4-40 1 1/4" sheet metal screws that came with included nuts. I also fo...
