So there should be always insulation between case structure and HDDs and don't "die hard" silencers mount HDDs elastically in any case? Fans are other vibration source but there are also other mounting methods than screws... and if particular fan happens to be heavily vibrating why would there be a...

Heyyy lookin good taxcheat! very sexy build. I would recomend shoving those SATAII cables up into the rear mobo tray area, and maybe add a ziptie half way betteen the drive and the hole to keep the cables together and as clean looking as possible. Then again, mayeb you already did that and I'm wasti...

The actual 12 V line on a 4-pin header isn't pulsed, the control signal is. I'm not sure what the magnitude of the signal is (I'd guess 3-5 V?), but it will be a lot easier to flip on and off than 12 V. oh you are so right..I knew there was something fishy about my understanding of it. Guess thats ...

the owner and editor of this site appears to be sick of this seemingly unending debate and doesn't take too kindly to continued heated discussions on the matter. I'm sorry for the duplicate thread then..I guess I'm too new and should have searched deeper into the old threads. Can an admin please de...

Based on your opinions, (thanks for the posts btw) it seems like the rigidity and mass of a steel case is beating the potentially better conductance of Aluminum. With that rigidity and mass comes better sound-proofing properties, and that's what we're all about. But I gotta say, I think you guys are...

I could be wrong..but i'm pretty sure you can't use a pwm header for a 3 pin fan. PWM headers output pulses of ~12 Volts of various time dependant widths (actually square waves ..liek your name!). Hence the acronym for Pulse Width Modulation. They require 4 pins to do so, and i'm not exactly sure wa...

Aluminum vs Steel Case Smackdown
Hey SPCR! I'm starting this topic to see what the seasoned computer veterans think about case material. recently, I came across some nice Lian Li cases that interested me for my next build. However, every case I've ever owned has been steel..not for a particular reason. I dont really do lan parties,...

Overall, my system works better and faster than with previous config. Is it worth £120? In my opinion..absolutely not. SSD technology (for large amounts of storage) is still in its early stages. It simply isn't refined, and it is WAY too expensive for each Gig. In less than a year they will be hal...

a lot of antec cases include "soft mounts" for hdds, which are really just little rubber feet i think.. however, to get a good suspension going your gonna want to DIY anyways. There are a lot of great guides on this forum/website that should tell u everything you need to know about suspending that H...

... it's been decades since i've looked at fluid dynamics, but i'd like to believe that more fin area increases the resistance to air flow, sort of similar to what tighter fin spacing does... so a low-pressure low-rpm fan can't push much air all the way through this fin stack, that's not what this ...

um..look for some foam padding of any kind. Foam itself has a lot of air pockets traped in it. Air is actually good at insulating sound when its in tiny pockets like this. i dont know where u live..but this seems like a sweet replacement for acoustipak..it even has pyramids that are used in high end...

There are various levels of "standby / sleep". See for example this article . It sounds like your PC may be using S1 rather than say S3 or S4. Try checking your BIOS to see what's configured there. Typically I see power consumption from the wall of <10W for my PCs when they're in S3(STR) even thoug...

i sorta get what you're saying..I guess it's just not something I would do. But I understand now. It's a streamlining thing huh..why have the extra power if it isn't needed. and with extra power comes extra heat and an extra few cents on ur electric bill. As of now I think its pretty universally acc...

lol..i still dont get it.. is it the heat? what is it about the chip u have that really bothers you? I guess i just dont see why you...

I dont know what kinda capabilites that board has, but have you tried any underclocking/undervolting? That would not only cut down on power, but it would bring down the heat output of that chip. In a world where technology is moving at the speed of light..there is little room for downgrades. As it i...

um..quick question.. why? you didn't really give a reason for your desire to downgrade. Is the q9400 running too hot? or are you just wanting to buy something? I often catch myself looking at computer parts, and then I think..wait. my computer works perfectly, and is faster than i would ever need fo...
