Please explain. However, I would be very careful as you are telling the program the card is a 6800 or a 7800 or something and it might make a mistake.mattthemuppet wrote:are there any VID options in there, once the card is recognised?

7600GT, 7900GT and RivaTuner
I saw this trick over in the Guru3d forums. To get RivaTuner 15.8 to work with the 7600GT and 7900GT navigate to Power User, System, ForceVGADeviceID and enter 92. That is the code for a 7800GTX. RivaTuner will exit. Restart and it recognized my XFX 7600GT as NV4B(A2,12x1,5vp) with 256mb DDR2. Not e...

BrianE: Thanks for the heads up on this topic. I have to put this one in the insufficient information category. It might be good, I just can't tell. ATM I am considering the VF900 as the main suspect for cooling a 7600GT. The mounting system is excellent and it is easy to install. I may also try slo...

ZM80D-HP Bites the Dust
It would seem odd that a passive cooler could go bad, but that is what has happened. The mounting of the ZM80D depends on two thin strips of spring steel bolted with very small screws to an aluminum block that sits on the GPU. There is no way that the assembly is stable. It tends to rock on an axis ...

The tweak goes on... After devising some new and more difficult stability tests (2X prime 95, mixed, 790 mb each, plus muxing a DVD and viewing an Xvid video all at once) I discovered that the system's virtual memory settings were borked. After fixing that I arrived at a new OC cocktail. 257X10, 257...

Iaasic: You must be drinking some high quality coffee this Sunday AM. I removed another 2 PCI slot covers. Now two are open on each side of the VGA card. CPU temp looks to be down about 2C. Its hard to tell as it jumps around a bit more now. CPU seems to be around 46 (occasional brief spikes to 47C)...

Isaac: You are right, you don't know until you try. Perhaps, after I finish this folding run. Two of the seven pci slots are uncovered. One has the VGA card. It would not hurt to pull another one right now. I see what you are saying. Push-pull overcomes impedance. Therefore, the impedance is from th...

Thanks Isaac Perhaps I could get away with one fan on the CPU if it was running @ 2000 Mhz. No way @ 2599 Mhz. I estimate the CPU uses 108 watts. Someone tried to go with a single fan and said it had to run 1100 rpm to do the work of two fans @ 700. I tried running the exhaust @ 600 rpm and the Ninj...

I don't know if it will work with your particular card, but you could try to slow the fan down with Riva Tuner. That way it would only ramp up when playing games. Or, you could try to place a resistor on the fan. About 100 ohms will probably be enough, but YMMV. Neither of these techniques will comp...

I thought I would update this thread: The Zalman has been replaced by a Ninja Plus. There is a cardboard duct to the exhaust fan, the CAG has been closed of and most openings into the case are open to let air in. The stock Antec fan remains @ 5v, estimated speed is 740 rpm. Stock Ninja Plus fan (Add...

Get the XP-90. It will outperform the Zalman 7000 and make less noise at the same time. Try the stock backplate. If the mount for the cooler attaches flush and everything looks good, go with it. Note that some backplates can slide out of position when the screws are removed. It is also possible to c...

I don't know about the GS, but I can tell you my 7600GT maxes out at 71C with its passive Zalman ZM80D-HP. That is in a warm, 28C, room with one instance of the HDRIBL demo running and one instance of Prime95 to keep the other core busy. So, if it is heat you are concerned about, and the cooling mus...

The new 500G Seagate is known to be noisy. From what I have noticed the 500G drives are a bit pricey per Gigabyte. 300's seem about the cheapest. You appear to have your heart set on using Flac, no doubt because it is lossless. With a lossy format (MP3, Musepac, Vorbis, AAC) you can easily cut your ...
