Well if you get each individual component manufactured seperatly and just put it together yourself then the manufacturers wouldn't really have the overall system design in front of them. If you know the people there and know they are ersonable then it should be ok. Another thing I don't understand i...

Definatly keep us informed with how it's going. Too bad you damaged your CPU but at least it still works and when you get your new one you can put together another folding box :) Anyway, what are your plans to get this thing manufactured in quantity? Obviously a few prototypes can be put together ea...

If anyone is in doubt about intel's move to the pentium M then they won't be after they look at this article. http://www.x86-secret.com/articles/cpu/dothan/dothan-5.htm It's in french but the graphs really do the talking. A pentium M Dothan is on average equal to a athlon 64 FX clock for clock. Now ...

fan control will be manual. i'll set it so that the minimum setting will be 5v, which should provide enough airflow to prevent things from overheating, so there won't be any need for temp control to handle dangerous situations. it'll essentially be a 'volume' control :) That's a fair comment, and I...

Yep, the aussie version of Sydney. Anyway it sounds like you've really got this coming together. I guess it makes sense to just buy the heatercores, at least at first. though maybe for V2 you could come up with a custom design. As for waterblock design jet impingement designs are used in the highest...

Hi guys, I personally have never tried water cooling and I'm into silent, high performance computing, so I guess that makes me part of the target market. Anyway I thought I might just express some ideas as to why I havn't tried water cooling before. The first thing I would say about it is that it's ...

The Radeon 9600XT is built on the .13 micron "low-k" process and is available in a fanless version from sapphire. It also covers your other requirements so that would be a good option for you. I read somewhere that ATi were planning to introduce the RV370 core on a .11 micron process later this year...

The week before the points change I posted 715 pts. The week in which the change took place I posted 839 pts. The week after the points change I posted 801 pts. So I'd say, factoring in that the first week could have been unusually good. That I've increased production by about 25%. certainly no more...

David, I think that the best way to get the most points with the work units assigned to you is to have each unit folding on the machine that is best at it. That is it is very bad to have a P4 folding a tinker but and athlon is not that bad with them. So if you could switch a tinker from a P4 to an a...

Well, there they are. I think the higher points brackets are now good and challenging. Perhaps teal could be lower but that's the system that Jason decided on so I guess that's what we live with. For me I'll likely oscilate between black and teal depending on what units I get etc. Anyway It won't re...

As a teal folder with 1 24/7 system I hink my increase in points will be roughly about 20 percent. I guess it's just more variable whether single system folders get good units or not. I saw one good tinker but the other than that I havn't seen any units that have given me a large boost in points. I ...

We're still close, but the gap has now moved out to about 6k. Not much still but it's growing at about 1k ppd. If you look at the EOC team page on the eoc stats they have taken in quite a lot of new members recently (not as many as the mac guys did but a lot more than us). Its in these new members t...

Hmmm, I guess the enhancements to the A64 over the old K7 core don't help it much. At least in tinker units. My current and previous work units are both these. The times I've seen on these on my 2.2GHz Barton are 31:40 - previous work unit, actual time to complete from logs. 33:20 - prediction from ...

Yes, the race is very much still on. We are less than 3000 points behind EOC, which is a very slim gap. I only wish I had some more firepower to bring online (I already borged the family's comp). Oh well, if nothing else we've managed to drag EOC's production way up which is good for the project ove...

With a HTPC I think you'd be lucky to be drawing 100W from the wall so the PSU would be working well within its limits as far as power delivery is concearned. Other points to consider are its potential enviroment in the case. I mean, in a HTPC case the vent holes on the PSU might be virtually blocke...

At this stage I think I'm not going to try to do anything funky with the system. I'm going to suggest that all AMD machines would now be better off folding tinkers in the long run. It takes my stock 2500+ about 48 hours to complete the average tinker which means about 120 ppd. On the other hand the only gromacs that give me that sort of ppd are the new 160 pointers, most are aro...

Also on the subject of temps I wouldn't be concearned at all about your 45C processor temp. I'm not concerned about that temperature for the CPU. That's a very good temp actually. What I'm worried about is the 45ºC exhaust of the power supply. You must have confused the two. :) Sorry I did confuse ...

I run the GUI version too and once I set the -advmethods it started to pick up Gromacs instead of Tinkers, so it seems to work. I like the GUI version for the fact that I can easily pause it by clicking on the icon in the taskbar. I don't think you can "pause" the commandline version. You can't pau...

Yes the fan on these has a bit of motor whine noise, have you tried undervolting the fan? I found that the stock fan isn't fantastic but you might get away with it undervolted, just check the temps to find the lowest noise level with adequate cooling. If that fails you should replace the fans. I've ...
