it happens to all sleeve-bearing fans, including my Super Tornado. you'd have to oil it. or you can replace the fan. voiding the warranty? after so long is the warranty still any good? i don't think you can sell it for much since the S12 is out now, but you can try. I still think you should replace ...

http://www.anandtech.com/tradeshows/showdoc.aspx?i=2366 This is a pretty good read about Yonah. So, my interest is in the low-voltage version of the Yonah. It's basically dual Dothan, but faster than two Dothans since they share 2MB of cache. They also expect the floating point performance to be vas...

Hi it's me again. I own Yate Loons and would have to say that at 1300RPM blowing through my heatercore (yes i have one too, made by GM), I can't even feel it with my hand against it. W/o the heatercore it's easy to feel, but the heatercore is just too restrictive. At 1800RPM I can feel it slightly. ...

Here is some data for a 226W peltier. At 35W heat load, 9V gives you -11C while 15V gives you -14C, so the temperature difference is very small but the difference in wattage used is huge. The efficiency of low voltage peltiers is quite good. 370W peltiers can be extrapolated. Of course don't expect ...

Since it's the bearing noise, getting Yate Loons would really help. Yes they are posted at procooling, but they used 80W large artificial dies. With a real CPU which is smaller, I estimate the Storm C/W (designed for small dies) to be 0.11 and the 6002 (designed for large dies) C/W to be 0.15, compa...

Ah....I see I see.

Well ASUS underreports CPU temps. So 44 degrees on yours is like 54 on my Abit. I would say probably 50C is when you should start worrying, because actual CPU temps are 15-20C hotter than that.

Problem is that blowing through the dense heatercores is difficult. You'll get little airflow and amplified noise if you switch to lower RPM fans. But you mention what you don't want to spend more money. How about ripping out every other fin from the heatercore to increase flow rate and decrease noi...

Also, how does the modified Zalman PSU compare to a Seasonic S12?

The CPU temps seem OK to me. Nothing to worry about.

Yes, the Yate Loons will be enough but not effectively because setup isn't optimal for Yate Loons or Quiet Computing. You can get far more quiet watercooling while improving temps at the same time. I also admire your work on the box and your DIY spirit. First, heatercores are designed for loud high-...

Cut the thin metal support and layer four of them together. Now you've got yourself a passive CPU cooler for Athlon64. That wouldn't work very well. The fin spacing is too tight and the fins face the wrong directon on most motherboars. Not to mention it wouldd cost 200.00. You can et a ninja for 45...

Thermaltake heatsinks can definately benefit from lapping, I dunno about the other brands. Some Zalmans also need lapping. It depends on your skill and how well you can lap it. Usually lapping it still won't give it a flat finish and will be slightly curved. Good lapping requires a good equipment se...

It only has a single-rail 12V that is 20 amps max. Although that's not too bad, most 300W PSU's are more powerful than that "500W" PSU. Heatsinks inside the PSU are small and it isn't even advertised as being quiet. Someone should test one but I don't think it can compete with the low-end Seasonics.

I've heard about running peltiers at 5v, but what about at 3.3v? Someone should try 3.3V, but I speculate that anything over 40W will overload it at 3.3V. For a 350W peltier, testing shows that at 5V it overloads at 65W. At 7V it should be able to handle anything, but anti-condensation insulation m...

This is similar: http://overclockers.com/tips1211/ But it seriously needs refinement, because there is no pump on the watercooler. However, combined with this idea: http://overclockers.com/articles1248/ Those two ideas combined with a large passive heatsink/radiator would be what we want. It will be...
