So what're the 2.5" 5400rpm 160gb/platter notebook drives announced/in the market now? This, Samsung M5S series, Toshiba has too, WD 320GB (what about their lower capacities?).

Anyone actually owns any one of these? The Samsung has some nice STR from some HDTach screenshots on the net.

The spec sheet now says:
7,200 RPM class. Actual speed can be different a little.
But since there's F1 series now, why look at the lower density S250 ? S250 does have very low power consumption though.

I suppose the only difference between TX and TX2 is the mounting system right (AMD or Intel vs Universal)?

I just built one up this evening. Nice feature set. It does have a floppy, but the DVI port does not support a D-sub adapter for a standard 15-pin monitor. I am going to play around with it more this weekend and get all the power settings right, but it seems real solid. I don't have a need for HD o...

I guess you'd have to wait for availability of Western Digital WD2500AAJB or WD2500AVJB . Otherwise, Hitachi T7K500 320GB HDT725032VLAT80 is a good choice too.

Strange. I have owned a 7K160 160GB PATA since July 2006, and its seeks with AAM disabled are definitely nothing near quiet. Enable AAM and it becomes pretty good, but seek times go up by about 35%.

The drive is made in China, MAY 2006.

If it is a constant 12.39V and you measured that using a multimeter (and you're sure the multimeter is working as it should), then yeah it isn't operating within specifications.

The SPCR reviews clearly show that the S12-430 is quieter than the NeoHE at all loads. Not quite at all loads, actually. The only trend that seems to distinguish the Neo HE is that it may start out slightly quieter and then ramp up a bit faster. And if you look at the S12-330 sleeved version , it s...
