Samsung SH-S183 DVD-burner

Just thought I post a tip. I bought the S183 for it was the only SATA DVD-burner I could find. Haven't really used it until last night. IT´S QUIET!!! The case was open so there was nothing between the dvd and my ear. I could hear it but barely. Nothing annoying sound. I was burning DVDs at the mome...

Welcome to SPCR!

Why so many HDDs? If there is any fans in that case I bet they need to be replaced ;-)

For DVD i can recommend Samsung SH-S183. Rather short, has SATA and suprisingly quiet

How about using window screening -- insect screening -- a couple of layers perhaps? That would create smaller holes than in grids I've seen that would block approximately gigahertz or cellphone frequencies. I don't speak with any authority on this -- just throwing out an idea. The quote was "Most d...

The wavelength of EM radiation at 2GHz is 15cm (6"), and 1MHz gives 300 metres, but I'm not sure how much smaller it has to be (wikipedia says "significantly smaller") That far? I assumed it was nano-size. Anyone know specificly about the length a compter is putting out and how much that's in "norm...

AFAIUI the shield should have no holes in it larger than the wavelength of the radiation it is trying to contain/protect against. http://www.cv.nrao.edu/~rfisher/Papers/rfi_sumschool.ps The spectrum of RFI from computers and other digital equipment is a mixture of narrow and broadband emissions wit...

Where is the thing you are trying to shield in this diagram? It's not there. I am asking about how the shield can be constructed rather than the shielded object. Am I explaining it good enought? It's a tower case out of wood. Each side will probibly not be connected to eachother unless it's very ne...

Faraday cage question

Is it enought to get a faraday cage effect if I put wire on each side in a slalom-way with ~1cm between like this:

Code: Select all

    _
 | | | |
 |_| |_|
And does the sides have to be connected?

Edit: Fixed the drawing, looks very weird in the message but proper when posted :-)

Could you give us your impressions of the Noctuas vs the S-Flex fans? I myself find the Noctuas to have a weird buzz from certain angles but at ~800 or less they almost silent while still pushing a fair amount of air. I didn't plan a passively air cooled case just because I didn't have around a fan to downvolt. hihi you didn't? :-P The more challanging the more fun. As I stated, it's very impressive build. A totaly passive computer is technically very impressive. But with a fan at 5V you get so much bether result and yet it's silent. So it's more a bragging right than needed thing :-P

But impressive build non the less. Nice to see a woodcase :-)

I was looking at buying Noctua fans, but it seems there are issues with them when it comes to restrictions
What issues? I have 2 Noctuas and 2 S-flex (all on 1200rpm) and 1 Ninja-plus-fan (some Adda)

Artefacts for boosting FSB???

Finaly got myself a Scythe Ninja and thought I'll try to overclock my cpu a bit. It works fine at 3.5Ghz (Prescott 3Ghz), nice temps anyway. But now I've noticed artefacts in games. How can that be? My graphic isn't overclocked at all

According to Bjorn3D the "Etasis ET850" PSU is quieter than the Seasonic S12-600. It's not a good sign that bjorn3D's noise results are not the same as SPCR, SPCR measured the S12-600 @ 25dBA @ 200W, but they are saying 35dBA?? That's like twice as loud. Seems to depend on ambient noise. See Madshr...

Yea but he seemed to have stabilityproblems as well.

Find a PSU that runs the computer stable and then modd it for watercooling might be an option
