Re: Going from HD/Vista to SSD/Win 7 - Thoughts?
Well I have 32 bit Vista & 4GB of RAM, no place to go RAM-wise. ....I don't expect much pagefile usage until PhotoShop is used. IMHO, you should spring the $90 and get 64-bit win 7 if you're going to be using Photoshop (mostly to handle more RAM, but also because 32-bit is dying out). And I might b...

Looks like the one I used in my system. It worked well, though I had to modify the mounting clips for the Dark Knight a little. Annoyed that AMD doesn't make this easier... who wants to block half their RAM slots with the stock mounting?

I am running an AMD 240e passively in the following configuration: AMD 240e Xigmatek HDT-S1283 CPU cooler (without the fan) According to Asus bios, the CPU idles at 21C and is about 25C under heavy load. This may be a bit optimistic (Asus may have tweaked the temps), but I am extremely satisfied. N...

I ran my 240e with a passive Dark Knight (same as Xig S1283, I believe) for a while. It was fine at idle, but over the summer (no a/c in my apt) it would climb high during extended load so I slapped a fan on there just to be safe. But for a server it would probably be fine. Keep in mind a good 120mm...

My experiences with an AII 245 undervolted was that it was hard to break 40W idle. <snip> Add in the extra power for the 3.5" drive the tuner and 44W sounds about what I would expect for that setup. Ok, good to know. I just keep wondering how other people are reporting these 25W systems? Maybe they...

Idle consumption seems high, any ideas?
So I built this system (part list there and in my sig) a while ago and it's working out great, but I'm kind of disappointed in the power consumption. I pay about $0.24 / kWhr here so I purposely chose the mobo, cpu, and psu so I'd have an uber-low idle consumption, but it generally idles at 44W (Kil...

I don't have much advice... I'm looking for the same thing. I have an Optoma H27 that is ok... I usually don't notice it when I'm watching something. But when I have the audio on mute, I notice it's louder than I would like, I can hear it from the next room. I keep hoping the newer LED-powered ones ...

If you're going to move it around, maybe try something like I did with my tivo's hard drive . Strapping it down onto sorbothane with zip ties or shock cord (probably zip ties if you're going to move it often). Adjust the tension to make it secure enough for your use. I think I'd go with a Scythe Big...

I also have an Elite 341 and recommend it. Check out my gallery post on it, it shows how I decouple my hard drive. I just rest it on the bottom with some foam and sorbothane underneath. Thanks for the comments! Would be so much easier if you could just buy adapters for the ATX connector and back plate, though. My 785G passive 240e & Dell RM112 build
So I finally upgraded, woohoo! I was coming from an athlon xp-m 2400+, so this is a big boost. I mainly decided to upgrade because I was getting increasingly annoyed with being unable to play more and more videos I ran across. I lasted 5.5 years on the old system, not too shabby. New specs: - Athlon...

Just FYI, someone told me the Cooler Master Elite 340 (now discontinued but still available by some resellers) is somewhat identical (except for the aluminium front bezel) to the TJ08. I just bought a Cooler Master Elite 341... I think it's an inch larger than the 3480 in one dimension, but pretty close in the others. I didn't want the built-in psu or closed-off psu channel... I did this for a coworker recently. Trueimage works fine but it won't just let you copy the boot partition ignoring other data on the drive. Ghost can copy a boot partition from one drive to another. If you're a DIY'er, check this out: http://hackaday.com/2010/02/05/pre-spun-hard-drives/. It holds the mobo in "reset" while it spins up one drive at a time. Once all are spun up, it lets the mobo boot normally. I'm not aware of a commercial solution, but this may be an option for some.

I just bought one from buy.com, it should arrive any day now. Looks like they are still in stock. Kind of a premium over a regular 240, but I wanted to check it out. I'm sure many/most 240's can undervolt well, but it could be hit or miss and I didn't want to deal with the hassle.
