Re: Asus P8Z77-V Pro: Xpert Fan Control for LGA1155

1.048V stock idle voltage is very high. My i7-2600K is idling at 0.97V. The 1.048V is what is displayed when I go to the CPU voltage setting in the BIOS where I can set the offset. It doesn't appear to correlate directly to either the idle or load voltage. So I'm not sure what is in reference to ex...

Re: Asus P8Z77-V Pro: Xpert Fan Control for LGA1155

Hey Billy - get out the watt meter and fill us with knowledge :D What kind of power savings are you seeing at various loads with your undervolt? My initial tests were with a picoPSU150XT + 60W 12V DC brick. Idle at stock was 24WAC. With the -0.1V offset I saw 22WAC. My lowest power Pentium M system...

Re: Asus P8Z77-V Pro: Xpert Fan Control for LGA1155

Are you sure your CPU didn't enter C6 state for first time when you seen 0.78V ? When i was playing with offset voltage with my 2600K, it didn't look like it affected idle voltages at all - they were 0.9-1.0V all the time. I didn't think about C6 at all. But under the same idle scenarios, I saw 0.9...

Re: AMD 7000 cards + Virtu = GPU fan off at idle?

Ug, I guess I kinda thought this Lucid Virtu stuff was working pretty well by now and assumed that the AMD ZeroCore would work with it. So far I haven't had much luck with it even working let alone powering down the GPU and fan. :( I still have testing to do though. Maybe I'm missing some things.

Re: Asus P8Z77-V Pro: Xpert Fan Control for LGA1155

There is no undervolting for idle clocks for any SB/IB CPU. And undervolting for max clocks ? Set your max CPU/Turbo multipliers, set a stable voltage and here is your undervolt/undeclock. ??? I recently purchased an i5-3570K and an ASUS P8H77-MPRO and one of the CPU voltage options is "offset". (A...

Re: Intel Core i7-3770 Ivy Bridge CPU

While maybe not "extensive", SPCR always makes note of a motherboards fan control or lack there of. They've touched on the ASUS fan control in articles like Sandy Bridge, Part 2: Intel DH67BL & Asus P8H67-M EVO H67 Motherboards . I know I've seen people at the Tech Report pushing for more fan contro...

Re: Intel Core i7-3770 Ivy Bridge CPU

Since SB and IB can work in the same motherboard, I'd be interested to see if the power consumption differences are still there on the same board? Maybe something with the Intel Z77 board is causing the higher power when the IGP is in use and you would see the same with a SB CPU. And maybe some of t...

Re: Icy Dock 2.5"/3.5" Drive Accessories

I think where the 2.5" to 3.5" SATA drive converter fits in is where you need a 3.5" drive but what to use a 2.5" drive. Not just mounting a 2.5" drive but require a 3.5" drive. Such as in a server with hot-swappable 3.5" drives but you want to put in some 2.5" SSDs or something. So more like buying...

Re: Gigabyte GA-E350N-USB3 AMD Fusion Review

Oh, didn't notice this thread got revived. :) Idle temps look to be around 47 in Windows. The fans are not silent but since it's in a cabinet across the room, it's not noticeable. It might be safe at idle with no fans. But definitely not under load. When I had the fans turned down or before I strapp...

Re: Sapphire HD 7750 Ultimate Edition

Thanks for the review. It looks nice! It's too bad about the 7750 and 7770 pricing though. Maybe the new nVidia cards coming out soon(?) will help push the prices down. Either way, I think the benefit of the power efficiency of these over the previous generation cards is worth the price. And actuall...

Re: homemade server case without fans

I would tend to agree with the fan in the middle approach. A fan at the top will maximize the airflow out of the case. But it would pull the air in from wherever is easiest. Which will mostly be from the open top of the case or the open bottom of the case where the hard drives aren't blocking it. Wh...

Re: A Windows system with idle power ~ 10 watt?

I've been tracking power usage of PCs and laptops I come across when I can. We recently picked up a couple of HP ProBook 4320s laptops at work with a Core i3 370 or 380 CPU and standard platter hard drive and I measured one at 9W AC idle. This should have been with the battery removed and the power ...

Re: Antec 280 OMG!

Is that a spot for a couple of SSDs right above the 3.5" drive cages? That seems to be one thing that hasn't been addressed by many cases. It's not expensive for adapters and many SSDs come with them. But that takes up a good bit more room that could be used for other stuff compared to how little s...

is there anyone else who would rather have two 120mm fans on the rear panel than any fans on the top panel? YES! Although to fit two 120mm fans on the back, it would probably need to be taller. I'm personally fine with one rear case fan. The "gamers" out there would probably freak at a case without...

Well, the Fractal Design R3 looks like a P180 clone. :) I also noticed the lack of the CPX PSU support. Maybe CPX isn't really needed with the higher efficiency PSUs out these days. read the full product description - you can remove the angled 120mm fan mount and use two 80mm fans instead :) It's designed to accommodate expansion cards up to 13.77" in SLi/Crossfire. There is also an optional 80mm fan mount to use in the upper area above the expansion slots. Dote! Missed that.

Re: Silverstone Fortress FT03 microATX Tower

It seems to me though that they were a little too concerned about fitting 120mm fans in there. I know 80mm fans aren't "sexy" these days. But a pair of those in place of the bottom 120mm fan would mean airflow directed at the GPU instead of more towards the CPU. Less airflow at a given noise level b...

I've been meaning to jump in on this discussion as I've been having similar odd issues with PSUs. Worked fine for a while but then I would get just a short burst of power before it would shut...

Re: Intel Core i3-2100 vs. AMD Phenom II X2 565

MikeC, could you be talked into do a supplemental review and add an AMD Phenom II X4 84 to it? There's plenty of performance reviews out there that you should be able to determine how the X2 compares to the X4s and then extrapolate that to the Core i3-2100. It seems a little unnecessary for SPRC to...

And nice job on the modding, what temps do you get with the passive heatsink? Well, being an HTPC, it sits in a cabinet that's mostly closed up. So it can cook itself a little bit. CPU was getting into the 50s again even with this setup. So I've actually removed the scythe fan and tried putting an ...

The AMD Zacate boards sounded like they would make a good replacement for my HTPC which was an AMD Athlon II X2 295 and 785G. Re: Can a PicoPSU power this PC?

I also disagree with the 250W figure. Many PSU calculators out there would give you a number like that. But that's more of a generic "Look for a PSU in this range" kind of recommendation. Not a real world power requirement. I would think the 90W would be enough. But it will be close. Only way to be ...

So I'm playing around with my gigabyte board which I'll post on later. But one question I had is did the ASUS clock the CPU down at idle?
