Ah... I see. I thought you had troubles with all OCZ RAM... simple misunderstanding. :) Yea... I'm a complete Intel fanboy, and I'll admit it. AMD has played far too much of a jumping game, going from S754, to S939, to S940, to AM2. Make up your bloody minds already! They say AM2+ and AM3 will be ba...

Haha... yea - I know I took a few cues from your build. You should be proud though... means I liked your idea. ;) The Yate Loons are much better than the stock CM fans. The CM fans are pretty quiet when run at 5V, but the YL fans have a much smoother sound, so I can tolerate having them run at about...

Ugh... The CPU heatsink will do alright at stock speeds, even if it's not quiet, but that's another matter. I'd toss that board out (or sell it to some sorry sap) and get yourself a proper motherboard. It's the lowest quality component in your system, when it should be the highest. I've never had an...

Finally, software. Lots of people configure their own custom Linux flavor. I'm lazy, I don't have the patience for that. I'm going to install Windows Home Server. The beta testers love it, and it makes Windows Server 2003 idiotproof. The only reason I haven't bought all this stuff is because WHS wo...

New quiet file server - not quite 2.8TB yet...
So... I was somewhat inspired to build this machine when I saw this thread . I've always been paranoid about data loss ever since my 40GB hard drive (turned out to be a Maxtor drive) in my first computer died years ago. Since then, it's been DVD backup of this, duplicate copy of that... blah blah bl...

I'd have to suggest something other than the Gigabyte board. It's more expensive, but I'd HIGHLY recommend the P5B series from ASUS. I've got the P5B Deluxe in a new system of mine, and it's nothing short of fantastic. GB seems to require a few BIOS revisions before they get everything sorted out to...

I've got a 3100+ on my PIII 1GHz. It's not entirely passive, but the only real thing that's cooling it is a homemade duct that feeds to the rear fan. I'm running SETI@Home all the time, and temps stay at 40C. So... long story short - yes, you can probalby do it. I'd still recommend using a slow fan ...

I disagree. Newton's ideas are simply expounded upon over a period of three hundred years. They were not rendered obsolete, so much as they were a catalyst for change. Newton's ideas were not simply expanded (I think that's the word you meant to use). They were incomplete. Classical mechanics compl...

Hello, The "CO2 lags" argument seems to be splitting hairs. For one thing, are these being measured in the same place ? The "lag" doesn't appear to be significant, but the fact that the temperature and the level of CO2 are in lock step does seem to be quite significant. The fact that the level of C...

Time is on a logarithmic scale... It is...? Which way? Are we looking at a graph with zero in the middle, and 650,000 off to the left (log scaled). If so, then the oscillations have increased in frequency... The graph there is on a linear time scale. Unless someone is trying to show an exponential ...

Thanks for the update Mike. Hopefully some coverage of that talk will find it's way into the papers or on TV (for those who weren't able to attend). I agree - a "free and balanced" media would be nice, but we see far too many examples in the papers - for example, one newspaper will tend to focus on ...

Looks very nice, but may I ask why you have the fan grilles inside the case? It's not like the tubing is going to get in the way of the fan blades any time soon, and the grilles are only obstructing airflow. My advice would be to remove them altogether. You'll end up with higher airflow for no loss ...

Its very good. I have two of them ( in different computers ) I just don't like the bright leds. Other than that, its very good product. Solid, high quality reduces noise effectively has 4+2 channels and is relatively cheap. I've got one as well. If you don't like the LED's, you can either remove/di...

I recently purchased the S-Flex medium speed fans (they were on sale for a really good price). At full speed, they're pretty audible (when placed in a quiet setting), but when slowed down a bit, they disappear. I'm using the Zalman ZM-MFC1 in my system, and I've got those two fans down to almost low...

Just as an addition to this (not saying it's due to one viewpoint or the other) - Vancouver has had a good dump of snow a few times this year - the latest was just last week! Whether or not I accept one thing to be fact or another isn't the point (and a completely different topic). I'm trying to bring up the fact that there are still questions that remain to be asked, and IMO, there are many groups that are rushing to conclusions. Politicians (the opposition in particula...

Thank you qviri. This is exactly my point. Secondly, Historically, CO2 never caused temperature change While this doesn't mean that it could trigger things, but in the past, it has not been the case that CO2 has been the sole cause. So it is correct that CO2 did not trigger the warmings, but it defi...

I understand how peer-review papers usually work, but when all of the information is reviewed by people with the same opinion, it kinda negates the strength of the argument. You say prove with quotation marks, indicating that it's not true. Did you read the piece on how the hockey stick model is inc...
