Re: Voting in America just got a bit harder

I believe the line " a more perfect union " is actually in reference to the Articles of Confederation , which was the first governing document of the United States. The Constitution replaced it. Not quite. It is in the Preamble of the US Constitution: You need to do a better job of reading other's ...

Re: Voting in America just got a bit harder

Ok, maybe I should rephrase, show me significant voter fraud in the 20 years. I have no obligation to show anything, and even a single instance of fraud is sufficient reason to protect the integrity of the voting system by requiring a photo id. Ok, you made two statements here. They are both false....

Re: Voting in America just got a bit harder

There was massive voter fraud in Chicago during the 1960 election won by JFK, and many claim when LBJ was elected to the House of Representatives. But it is virtually impossible to prove fraud if there is no voter id law. Showing a photo id is a common part of life in virtually every country in the...

Re: Voting in America just got a bit harder

Oh, yeah, an old person who doesn't drive would have no trouble getting to the DMV, and waiting in line for hours, and then getting a ride back. Also, a person who is working three part time jobs to make ends meet could totally take an afternoon off and be sure that they would not lose their job. Ag...

Re: Voting in America just got a bit harder

Ok, so are you just accusing me of being partisan, and leaving it at that? Or are you disagreeing that this would cause more people to be denied their vote than it would prevent from voting fraudulently? Because that is the most rational criterion. According to that criterion, voter ID laws are a ba...

Re: Voting in America just got a bit harder

I don't want to get into a heated debate about this, but it isn't laziness. Many people don't have drivers licenses because they don't drive. Many elderly people haven't renewed their drivers license because they don't drive. Your examples of needing an ID for medical care is simply false. I have go...

Re: Voting in America just got a bit harder

Lots of people in the states, particularly the elderly, the poor and students don't have ID that is sufficient for these laws. Some states (Tennessee for instance) specifically exclude student ID's even from state universities. This is pretty much a blantent attempt by the Republicans to suppress th...

Re: Upgrade advice for linux HTPC...upgrade graphics or new

According to this site: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html an IVB or SB cpu will have a "better" graphics chip than your card. However, I don't think your card should be having trouble playing that content, but it might just be me. You should head over to the...

Re: Helium Filled Hard Drives look nice

IANAP, but I think the relevant concept is partial presure. The partial pressure of the helium inside the drive is higher than the partial pressure of helium outside the drive, so helium will difuse out. Nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide and water vapor will difuse in for the same reason.

Helium is monoatomic as a gas, just He, not He2. I belive it is even smaller than diatomic hydrogen.

Take hundreds of years to do what? ..... I really don't want to get into this with you, but here is the basic facts. I certainly don't blame any German people who had nothing to do with Nazi Germany for what happened in WWII. Set top box recommendations

I am looking to get a STB like a Boxee or Roku largely for playing dvds (as iso's shared via SMB) and Netflix streaming.

I know that this isn't quite up SPCR's alley, does anyone have any suggestions for a good forum or site to get information about these?

Re: Which mobo maker generally has best BIOS fan controls?

Just a heads up. Some manufactures implement most of their fan control in BIOS, and some in applications that run in Windows. This mostly only matters if you are going to be running an OS besides Windows (Linux, BSD, OS X, etc)

Science, by the way, is not really published at little or no cost for anyone to read. To download the full text of a scientific paper will generally cost you about $30. And this, by the way, is the case even with publicly funded studies. So the public usually has to get it filtered, and greatly com...

Re: A quiet multi-disk file server that will idle <35 watts

The four extra pins on the 24 pin connector versus the 20 pin connector are not the same as the four pins on the CPU connector.

The 24 pin connector has an extra 12V, 5V, 3.3V and ground wire. The CPU connector has two 12V pins and 2 grounds.

Looks very similar to the the shopping list I've made for my htpc when I get the money. I second the Celeron or Pentium suggestion. You don't need that cpu for what your are suggesting. I only say Pentium to give yourself a little breathing room for inevitable mission-creep. I also looked at the Gra...
