I have my G0 Q6600, and Asus P5B. I heard this cpu can be undervolted. I tried undervolting it to 1.200v volts and system crashes once windows is booted.

In the end I may get an Antec Solo case. With some Nexus case noise blocking material, and a Seasonic 380watt psu. Also need to replace the hard drive with a more silent one, looking at Samsung hard drives. But then again money doesn't grow on trees. Already way over my budget.

That is a bit of an apples to oranges comparison. The Q6600 is significantly more powerful than the mini. The mini would certainly be smaller. The Q6600 would likely be more expensive. If you could provide a use for the system, perhaps other options could be considered? I must disagree for a second...

I'm pretty sure if you get some Hitachi's in AAM mode. Get the P180 with some acoustic material to block the noise, and even some hard drive enclosure, like the scythe hard drive silencer you shouldn't be able to hear the noise. I would personally try to quiet your current 12x500 hard drive solution...

I am just curious is cool and quiet enabled. And does the power usage go down when cnq is enabled. Do you need the server to be on 24/7, why not enabled s3 standby, and wake on lan, and get the server to wakeup only when needed.

Sorry to kick in. Just a few comments. Western Digital why not 32meg cache, also does the green actually make a difference or is it all marketting. How does more platters affect performance.
