My vote for 'silent' fans
Without naming names, there is at least 1 place that sells 80mm Panaflo L1As as 'Silent'. (And plenty of others that sell Panaflo or Papst under similar labels.) As above, I think the problem is the typical imprecision of English: compared to a Delta EHE of course, in a 30dB(A) office background of ...

I think I had 2 of those, 1 on each machine. 73 points worth :D The downside: my second box just isn't getting all its results back. Currently on its 7th WU, units 3 & 5 were deleted, unit 6 still waiting in que (sic) to be reported. Its the 73 pointer, and I just can't get it uploaded. fah3console ...

I'ld be tempted to try the Papst 612NGL 12.4cfm 16dB(A) 612NGML 14.7cfm 19dB(A) I got a 612NGM (20.6cfm) - at 7V it is reasonable, at least for a 60mm fan  ps - normally XP plc have them but they seem to be out of stock at the moment. And whatever you get, make your you grommit (or some other ...

It has got to be better. For that 40mm fan to blow 8cfm (@12V) would be going some. And you have it down volted. An 80mm Panaflo L1A at 5V would be shifting 10cfm, it would be inaudible and as long as you can get it aimed reasonably well at the heatsink should do a much better job all round. (Rememb...

Coming back on topic (I just scrolled to the top again as I wasn't sure what thread this was) ... Noticed you looking at the Papst 3412NGL (missed that first time round!) Got a couple of them myself, close to silent at 7V, too noisy for me at 12V. Which coincides with my earlier rabbiting on: I thin...

What's been your uptime so far? Well sometimes I run for many days, and sometimes I boot a lot. Right now this box has been running 27 hours: I had to reboot yesterday because it is also my IP server and one of my clients would not connect (and therfore not print which didn't bother me cause it is ...

This is getting out of hand
Does this forum count as some kind of F@H Anonymous? As far as I can see heading for the top 50 is plausible on our current performance, top 40 looks damn difficult. But I am becoming a stats junky, ensuring each of my units is returned, checking my position, who I am about to pass, tuning my rigs t...

mynci - I think what you are saying is (with your new BIOS) you now have 3 temps reporting in MBM, 35/36, 58 & 98? (I presume you are using MBM?) I dont know Albatron nor Intel nor your ambient temps, but most likely your guess that 35/36 is mobo, 58 is on-die CPU, and 98 is 'other' is reasonable. -...

Struts? Do you mean the heat sink fins? No, the bits of the fan that hold the hub to the frame (and that the fan power wires run along 1 of)? The pic shows your hsf 'flo struts up, and most fans exhaust over the struts. (Which would imply at the time of your pic at least your fan was sucking from t...

The SLK seems like a huge heatsink. Would it be possible to get away with using it without any fan at all if you're not overclocking? Not really: there is another thread just started about some guy with an undervolted XP1700, but reading his report, when he started Prime his temps only stopped risi...

Interesting - has anyone got an 80mm or 120mm? For some reason I think I saw a silent 'Globe' fan elsewhere (on the web) in the last week, but never found the site. BTW - seems their 1000rpm versions (of 80mm & 120mm that I saw) are special undervolted versions of the 2000rpm models. The 2000rpm job...

I wouldn't rush to put a 92mm fan on an SLK900. Yes it fits, yes it is quieter (for the same airflow), but a lot of that air spills down the sides of the SLK. Realistically, unless you are seriously overclocking, a well focussed 20cfm will do you just fine. Say you CPU is 80W (peak), then the basic ...

Re: papst 120mm 4312 - not that quiet
which at least didn't 'growl' at low voltages. Yeah - I feel for a couple of reasons this is the wrong fan for a Zalman flower. First, it is far from the quietest 120mm fan - as per Badashmods a 4412FGL would have been a better starting point. Second, for the hsf you need the airflow ideally focuss...

For a long time I thought the only way to get a quiet pc was to get a notebook. Dunnoh - with a bit of effort it is quite possible to get very acceptable ("nearly silent") results on a tower. I am really happy with my setup, and certainly running F@H it is quieter than my new Dell Latitude which ha...

Jen - if you run your system with the side cover removed you will get an idea of the lowest temp you could get your CPU to. I would guess that 42 may be close to optimum, in which case any extra holes (for that purpose) will be in vain. I suspect the 32 system temp is because of where it is being me...

Re: a silly idea perhaps, but what about...
would this work? would it be worth it?mynci Could work, at the moment probably not worth it. The challenge is those external blocks are typically 300 to 500mA, whereas your typical (tower) PC needs up to 100W or more, which would be say 8A at 12V. To some extent it is being done already though: my ...
