A mATX motherboard / case does not require a ATX PSU. Besides, ATX PSUs aren't that big and most of the time don't dictate case sizes.user wrote:Of course microATX case is bigger than mini ITX, is it owing by the big fat ATX PSU size definition. -.-

Assuming you had a completely blank slate, with absolutely no layout requirements, what would your ideal layout be? What features would you demand? Hi George, I'm glad you asked. :p I've been looking for compact (low depth) cases for mATX and mITX boards. I don't need 5.25" bays, I don't need 3.5" ...

Because the chart doesn't cross compare the fans that way. The green numbers represent the first place winner at each of the dBA levels. I think that's doing it the wrong way around. You should be looking at quietest fan at a certain temperature level. Remember that this is SPCR and therefore the f...

Re: Drive-bay free case (smaller more efficient, quieter)
I think one of the reasons is that the ATX PSU form factor isn't terribly conducive to fitting in a small case with a tower style CPU cooler and full height expansion cards. What's wrong with ATX PSUs and full-height cards? Full-length cards are problematic, full-height is no problem. Without tons ...

Re: Furmark: a good load generator?
From what i have read it seems if the drivers detects Furmark or OCCT running it wont do anything until the power regulator comes under load, as soon as that happens it will underclock the card by %50 and regulate the power so you cant fry your card. Why would it have to detect Furmark before it'd ...

Maybe the performance of Furmark should be included to such that throttling is noticed and the performance / W ratio can be calculated. Power by itself is kinda meaningless.

As for FurMark, due to NVIDIA’s power throttling we’ve had to get a bit creative. FurMark is throttled to the point where the GTX 580 registers 360W, thanks to a roughly 40% reduction in performance under FurMark.

Is Furmark a good load generator? AFAIK both AMD and nV drivers detect Furmark and throttle the card.

There's a lot of variation between review sites. I also think there's a fair bit of variation between the cards coming off the production line. My take: at stock fan profiles, the Asus is a bit quieter but runs hotter...and you can modify the fan profiles with their included s/w. I like MSI's TF IV...

I am thinking about buying a aftermarket backplate to put on the back to maybe reinforce it? While that will stop the GPU area from bending so much it will unfortunately concentrate all of the stress on the area near the PCI-E slot and the slot itself. Does it? Full-height cards require about 12cm, PSUs about 15cm. Cases like BitFenix Outlaw are 18cm wide.
What width are you looking for?
If you want really thin, get the Q12 at just 88mm.

That's wider than most towers and a depth of 40cm isn't small, so it's footprint is quite big (9.6 dm^2). I prefer the footprint of the Q12: 1.8 dm^2.240 x 207.4 x 401.4mm
Why does nobody make a cheaper Q12 alternative?

It is still in the Samsung catalog, although no one other than an imaging pro would be interested, given its modest 20" size and 1680 x 1200 resolution, austere style, and dearth of connectivity. 1600 x 1200 On paper, DisplayPort to DisplayPort should allow WQHD screen resolution without fail.
